Enigma for Mac is an Atari-inspired game that challenges you to bounce balls off the walls of various layouts to find matches and other items. Each time you discover the secret of your current board, you move on to the next one. While many of the levels are pretty straightforward, you'll quickly find yourself hooked on this compulsively playable game.
The game comes with no instructions, but it shouldn't take you long to get the hang of the controls. On the first board, you control a ball with your mouse, and your goal is to hit and reveal all of the special blocks in the wall of the enclosure. However, in order to get the mark under each special block to stay revealed, you have to hit the matching hidden blocks in order. So after you reveal a red marker, you have to find the other red marker to keep them both visible. When you've uncovered all six markers on that level, it's time to move on to your next challenge. Most levels involve some variation of this matching game, but the special blocks aren't always obvious, and there are other items you sometimes have to collect, as well. Some levels even require you to control multiple balls at the same time.
Enigma is free to play, and the Settings menu offers convenient options to switch to fullscreen, adjust video resolution, and more. You can enter a username if you want to submit your scores and see how you stack up against other players around the world. So whether you grew up playing Atari, or you're just a fan of this type of game, Enigma is worth checking out.
