Editors' Review

by   / June 12, 2014 Medication Guide offers comprehensive information about prescription and over-the-counter drugs and packs handy features like Pill Identifier, Drugs by Condition, and Interactions Checker in a neat and appealing UI. The only downside to using this app is that it's full of ads.

Probably the best medication database for Android: Medication Guide features more than 24,000 prescription and over-the-counter drugs, which means that even if you're looking for lesser-known names, you'll probably find them. What's more, apart from searching for drugs or browsing by name, you're also able to discover the right drugs for treating specific conditions, find out what side effects certain drugs can cause, and get dosage information.

Lets you create a drug list: After registering a free account with, you can create an unlimited drug list that you can easily access, manage, and update. This is an extremely useful feature for both patients and specialist doctors.

Provides excellent drug info for new mothers: If you're pregnant or are breastfeeding your newborn, the Pregnancy & Breastfeeding feature enables you to quickly find out whether a specific drug can be harmful to you. The information is detailed and useful.

Doesn't work offline: All of the app's features require Internet access to work. This could be a problem if you're traveling and don't have a stable connection.

Loaded with ads: While the app's main window is ad-free, every feature or drug entry is loaded with annoying image and text ads, pretty much like the Web site. Expect as many as five or six ads for longer drug entries.

Bottom Line Medication Guide impresses with its depth and usefulness. The ads may be annoying, but this is undeniably a great app for getting useful information about prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Before downloading it, just keep in mind that you can't use it offline.

How can you tell if an Android app is safe?
