Cookie Stumbler allows you to clear your browsers and other apps of unwanted cookies, quickly and easily. With frequently updated cookie definitions, a deep scanning tool, and the ability to show you where each cookie is located, what data it contains, and how it interacts with your personal data, this is a must-have tool for anyone concerned about Internet security.
Downloading Cookie Stumbler is quick and it takes only a few seconds to install. You can then open it and immediately start scanning your computer for cookies. You'll likely need to update the software shortly after installing because it requires new definitions, but this process was fast, too. The newest version ran smoothly and without issue on our 10.9 Mavericks MacBook Pro and the scanning and cookie deletion process were near instantaneous. Combined with global tracking and a rather useful ability to see where cookies tend to show up on other devices, this is a powerful tool for anyone who is concerned about privacy or has no idea what third parties are tracking on their computers.
Out of the box, Cookie Stumbler is a 14-day trial so you can clear your computer, remove cookies, and see just how much data is being gathered, but you will need to spend $20 to keep the software after two weeks. For those without any privacy protection software, however, it is worth the upgrade. The interface is very intuitive and the app runs fast and without bogging down your machine.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Cookie Stumbler for Mac 2.0.1.
Cookie Stumbler eliminates Ad & Tracking cookies and allows you conveniently to maintain only the cookies on your computer which you really want to keep. This eliminates threats to your privacy and helps your web browsers to run faster. It will recognize known Ad/Tracking cookies via definitions which are updated frequently similar to anti-virus software and so far unidentified Ad/tracking cookies via an intelligent heuristics engine, which is built-in. Cookie Stumbler isn't dependent on advertising companies to "allow" users to opt out as some other applications. It does its job independently and it will do so without interfering when you browse the web. Cookie Stumbler is extremely easy to use. Once you have chosen either one of the default selection criteria such as your bookmarks or history or have put the cookies of some sites which you really want to keep on your 'keep-list', you can run the cleaning process automatically to a schedule which suits your needs. The schedules can be built easily and as customized and flexible as you want them to be. Supporting almost every commonly used browser in the market (currently Safari, Firefox, Chromium, Chrome, Camino, OmniWeb, Flash) you can use this program either to investigate exactly what websites are storing on your computer or clean it in one click or just let it run without you even remembering to run it. You can even integrate Cookie Stumbler actions into your own workflow by using our Automator Actions. Whatever you chosen workflow might be: Cookie Stumbler will make your Mac more safe and run smoother.
