From Boinx Software Ltd.:
Remember how you watched, fascinated, when King Kong climb the Empire State building? When Luke Skywalker rode the ice beasts? When Wallace and Gromit hunted down the Were-Rabbit? For centuries now, stop motion animation has made the fantasies of film makers come true.
Now it's time to tell your story, frame by frame.

"$499 "Pro" Version might be the $49 version, Be Warned"
Version: iStopMotion 2.1.1
Pros
Easy to use, extraordinarily fun to use.
Cons
Only useful on a desktop Mac, not a laptop. U.S. Vendor sells the $499 version, but only issues a license for the $49 low-res software... Impossible to fix after the software is installed, impossible to get a refund.
Summary
I started tinkering with stop motion film when I was a young lad, using 8 and 16 mm film cameras. It was wonderful making my fram-by-frame animation sequences when I was young, but agonizing having to manually trigger the shutter on my film cameras. When I read about iStopMotion by Boinx and saw examples, I knew I had to purchase the software and begin experimenting in the digital arena.
Opps... here is the link to my iStopMotion video (in the Ghost Town of Shafter, Texas) that I made a couple of years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP1c1rIioC0
I have no interest in using this software inside a studio. I had planned on taking my 13 inch Powerbook into wilderness areas in order to capture long sequences of cloud formations and shadows as they traversed over scenic backgrounds.
In order to capture such sequences, it was necessary to purchase a small Honda gasoline powered generator, in order to run a 3-chip camcorder and the Macintosh laptop for an 8 hour run, while the iStopMotion software was capturing individual frames of sunsets and thunderstorms.
My first and only video I made was captured in the Texas Ghost Town called Shafter (you can see it on my YouTube account or my Flickr account.)
After spending several days in the wilderness, I came home to edit my footage on my new iMac Dual Core with the Intel guts. It was fairly easy to move the captured video sequence to the iMac and edit using iMovie, but I discovered that the version of the iStopMotion software I had was the low resolution (grainy) $49 version and not the $499 version I paid for.
After nearly two years of trying to communicate with Boinx, I finally gave up on using this software. I was never able to get the full resolution of the "Pro" version I paid for, despite the fact that the Boinx people in Germany were pretty helpful in trying to resolve my problem. I think that once this software is installed on your Mac, it can never be "upgraded" to a higher resolution because of some kind of problem with the original license key being imbedded into your hard drive and applications. Also, the U.S. vendor must have simply taken my money and then disappeared and it seems that the software can now only be purchased through Boinx in Germany.
I wish Boinx sold this software on a CD, with a license key. But, this is all "water under the bridge" and I have simply given up on getting a fix through Boinx. The complexity of having to haul a gasoline generator in order to supply a constant 120 volt source for the camcorder and laptop isn't worth the effort. In a studio setting only, this software promises to reward the end-user on many projects. It is simply stunning what the software can do and how the scenes are rendered and it worked well with iMovie HD for me (with the exception of the low resolution and the inability to never get the $500 Professional version to work.)

It was great fun making this video, but disappointing only being able to make the video in low-resolution and not the "Pro" high resolution I invested in. This video can also be seen on my Flickr account "High Above Texas"... -
"Great Fun!"

I use this with my iSight. My kids and I use it quite a bit, and they actually control the snapping of the picture. They really enjoy the results with their Lego models and dolls and such. Great support, good documentation and feature set. No regrets, except that I don't get to use it as much as I like. -
"Best stop-motion app"

A lot has happened since the last review here. Time lapse works as a charm. I wouldn't want to use any other app for doing StopMotion. Check 'Bloody Snow' at http://homepage.mac.com/macnavi/index.html to see what you can do with this great app!
I've been using iStopmotion from the start and the greatest thing about this app is that the developers really listen to requests and feedback. Really any wish I had for the app has been "granted", so feels like it is an app specially made for me. -
"like it a lot"
