CNET Editors' review
Although Microsoft introduced Office 2007 with promises of more powerful features, it seems that for the average user--and especially the user who has to share files with other people--the new docx and xlsx formats have been nothing but trouble. DocXConverter is a simple utility that allows users to convert documents created by the 2007 versions of Word and Excel, as well as ClarisWorks documents, into formats that can be read by other programs. With a simple interface and intuitive operation, docXConverter is a commonsense solution to the problem of incompatible files.
The program's interface is simple, consisting merely of a small box into which users drag the files they want to convert. The program converts the files and places them in a destination folder selected by the user. Word and ClarisWorks documents can be converted to RTF, text, or Unicode, and Excel files can be converted to CSV, text, or Unicode. Although there is no Help file per se, a Readme file provides basic instructions. Overall, we found docXConverter to be extremely easy to use; the drag-and-drop interface couldn't be simpler, and the program worked quickly and without problems. We did run into trouble trying to convert a Word document that was heavy on tables, but this is a problem with the two versions of Word and not anything docXConverter could have prevented.
DocXConverter is free to try, but the trial version converts only a portion of the original documents. The program installs desktop icons without asking but uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.
Publisher's Description
From Panergy:
docXConverter is a program for opening and using files saved in the new Word 2007 default format, docx or in the new Excel 2007 default format, xlsx. docXConverter allows you to open docx or xlsx files with a program currently installed on your computer, even if none of your programs are capable of doing so on their own. For a docx file docXConverter converts the file to an RTF file, and then instructs one of the programs on your computer to open that file. For a xlsx file docXConverter converts the file to a CSV file, and then instructs one of the programs on your computer to open that file. docXConverter makes sure that the contents, the graphics and the layout of the original docx document are kept in utmost fidelity. Use docXConverter to open docx files in a word processor not compatible with Word 2007, to import docx files to a desktop publishing or graphic program or, if you are using an email program for example, use docXConverter to open docx files in text format. Use docXConverter to open xlsx files in a spreadsheet not compatible with Excel 2007, or to import xlsx files to a database program.

"I would have given it a negative star if possible"
Version: docXConverter 3.1.2
Pros
NOT ONE GOOD THING TO SAY
Cons
This is malware, pure and simple. I am still trying to get it off of my computer, and I DIDN'T EVEN SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THE FREE ADD ONS AT THE BEGINNING. DO NOT DOWNLOAD
Summary
Plain and simple this is malware, don't download it it will mess your computer up. I can't connect to google or yahoo right now, because it wants me to go through the conduit filter it installed without my clicking any of the free add-ons up front. I am trying to rid my computer as I type and wanted to prevent anyone else from having this issue if possible.

"Bad product, bad company."
Version: docXConverter 3.1.2
Pros
Responsive customer service people.
Cons
I couldn't even validate this software to begin using it. I followed the instructions to the letter, but the serial number I was given when I purchased the product kept returning strange error messages. Emailed customer support, and they told me that they didn't know what the problem was, but that if I emailed them the document I needed to convert, they'd convert it for me and then try to figure it out. I responded that while I appreciated the offer, the document was extremely confidential and I couldn't email it to anyone.
After two emails to their customer support people asking politely for either a refund or a new serial number, they finally just gave me a refund without attempting to solve the problem.
I really could use a program to convert .docx to .doc. I need that more than I needed my $30 back. The fact that they just sent me a refund instead of trying to fix the problem suggests to me that they know their product doesn't work.Summary
Seriously, don't bother.

"Deserves a zero (or less)"
Version: docXConverter 3.1.2
Pros
Easy to install (like most malware)
Cons
Gets in the way, nags for money, does not uninstall properly. Stops opening of DocX and XlsX documents, changes document icons, even after uninstalling! I had to get into Regedit to get rid of it.
Summary
Do not bother with it

"Useless Garbage"
Version: docXConverter 3.1.2
Pros
Easy to download
Cons
Totally useless...doesn't work at all.
Summary
I downloaded this program to translate some CWK files from my father's iMac and save them to Windows. However, every tiem I treid to translate a file I got the error message NO FILES FOR CONVERSION CAN BE FOUND.
I contacted the company who told me to read the manual. I did, but it didn't help. BUT if I buy the full edition, they would be more than happy to assist me. Well, I'm not going to waste my money on a program that MAY or MAY NOT work. -
