Beware this download. Comes loaded with "Spigot" which seems to be an appropriate word for the barrage of adware and spyware that will get loaded on your computer with this install!
Summary
This install totally highjacked my browser, installed Yahoo! as the default search engine and added a bunch of extensions to track my activity. This is totally unacceptable to me, if not downright sleazy. Haven't had a chance to try the app yet, but CNET, you blow!
Risky, not worth the trouble, AWFUL customer service.

I received endless File sync errors immediately after running XSlimmer. If superman up there knows of a restore process for us "whimps", he should inform the publisher so they can provide support for their 'product'. If you're a gambler, by all means go for it.

Unfortunately, I used XSlimmer, ran into problems (over 7000 FILE SYNC ERRORS immediately after running XSlimmer), and contacted support for assistance. Their auto response was prompt, leading me to believe that customer service might be good. I was wrong. I heard back initially with a request for system info, and some other possibly related items. I provided the requested information, then nothing. That was early October. I've sent repeated requests for updates, and have received no response aside from the auto responses. Based on my experience with LateNiteSoft and XSlimmer, I say do not gamble with an unreliable company. The payback is not worth the potential of them ignoring requests to provide service for the product they sell. Because the after purchase service was nonexistent for me, I cannot rate any feature as acceptable because the product appears to have cause a large number of File Sync problems, all similar to iDisk/XSlimmer Backup/Google Earth.app.xs_bck/Contents/Resources. Be Warned.

When it did what it was supposed to do, it was a delight.

Fetting messages that a program could no longer work, because removing the surplus code had made it dysfunctional. I had to redownload, reinstall the software. (Beroyko for example)

Software like this has to make no fatal and irreversible errors in slimmming. My Mac Pro has lots of memory, runs the latest stable OS (10.6.5).

None whatsoever.Steal it off BitTorrent if you still want it.Would you pay someone to take a baseball bat to your Mac?

This vomit inducing heaving pile of junk will save you hardly any disk space and might well (as in my case) break large chunks of your operating system and its primary app's,not to mention 3rd party stuff to boot!

Risk vs. reward.If want to use this app after reading this,you deserve what you well might get.I have 173 different apps. installed on my Mac,and I'm usually pretty good at picking the system killing duds that are out there.Not in this case (Chardonnay = BAD BRAIN). PS-Cnet wouldn't let me post a review of 0 Stars as I wanted to,So that 1 star I gave it was somewhat coerced (I did want to post my own experience to the Cnet audience,so I decided to compromise).

Easy user interface, plenty of options, easy to install and operate. It isn't going to save you a ton of space, but it will save some.

There are programs that are affected, but not the most common ones. And there is a restore process which will fix any problems.
Summary
Peeling off lines of code from your program executables is a bit scary. Some users suggest only doing one program at a time and then checking to make sure it is still working. This is fine if you have all day. Better to just bite the bullet and do them all and then test the ones you are critically dependent on. Most common programs are unaffected, but others... One that didn't work for me was the communication manager for my wireless broadband USB card. It was easily fixed. Also, make sure you direct the stripped code which the program saves to be able to restore your programs to an external hard drive otherwise you won't have any net savings of space for your hard drive. I reduced my executable footprint by 1.8 Gigs. That may not sound like a lot in these days of 100+ Gig hard drives, but I'm on a MacBook Air when I travel (which is a lot) and every little bit helps. Also, I have not noticed that my programs run quicker, but I haven't noticed that they've been slower either.

It seems to err on the side of safety at every opportunity. I've been bitten before by apps who throw up long liists of files that need 'treatment', only to find lots of my applications refused to work once they had weaved their magic.

Absolutely bombproof compared to other scarier apps I have trialled. I gained 4 gb on my eMac (10.4.11) and 1.97gb on my ibook g4 (10.5.3) - bought a license for each on the spot. Intuitive interface, plus the 'genie' function that drags all your apps into one place and inform you how much you can save, makes ease of use a breeze. At £9.50 English, you really can't go wrong if you're suffering from bloated hard drives. Team this up with Macaroni for a nice set of utility tools,

Xslimmer reduces the disk space taken up by Mac OS X applications removing localizations you don't need, and preserving just the Intel or PowerPC version of the code in Universal Binaries.

Xslimmer determines which code your machine needs and removes the rest. This is achieved by removing the code inside the Universal Binaries that does not fit with your machine's architecture, a code that never gets executed and just wastes your disk space.
