Publisher's Description
From Luxor Development:
Weather is a little tool for your menu-bar which shows you the weather for nearly every city around the world. Just open the Preferences Window, click "Add" and enter the Name or ICAO-Code of your City and hit "Search". Weather now will search the database which contains nearly 25'000 airports for your City and show you the results. Simply choose the one you like to add and click "Add".

"Excellent"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is a truly great, program. It's simple, free, easy to use, good looking and highly useful. It performs like WeatherPop, but without the crashing and cost. I really enjoy using this program, as it is a quality piece of free software. Thanks for making a great piece of software! -
"A good start; functional but needs refinement"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well, installed this this morning as a replacement for Meteo (which was a replacement for WeatherPop, and so on and so forth). It seems to be relatively fast, although there are some oddities.
Plug in EGLL, for London Heathrow. It comes up as "London (Engalnd)." There's no way that I can see to edit the names to correct the typo, so I'm stuck with it.
Plug in KORD and KMDW, for Chicago O'Hare and Midway, respctively. They both come up as "Chicago (Usa (Illinois))," despite the fact that one's northwest and the other southwest of the city, and the weather patterns can be different at each location. And like Heathrow, there's no way to edit the names to show which is ORD and which MDW.
Try plugging in KCGX, for Chicago Meigs (RIP). It doesn't match, so when it returns, select New Location and add it as 'Chicago Meigs.' It then started reporting that this location was 32*F, with no pressure, visibility, or wind. If it can't match a location after you plug in a valid airport code, it ought to pop up a warning or something, instead of reporting false values.
In preferences, there seems to be no way to reorder the airports -- so, on the drop-down menu, it lists them in the order I entered them, then from the top in the last-selected order. (Since I switched from KORD to KMDW, then back to KORD, KMDW is now first in line below KORD's forecast, for example.) If I want the airports to show up in a certain order, I have to manually select them all in the order that I want them to be displayed -- and then never change my mind, or repeat the process every time i switch cities -- instead of just being able to drag-and-drop them up and down in the Preferences dialog.
Speaking of which, it would be nice if the Preferences dialog was a proper window, so it could be moved, overlapped, etc.
And, echoing another poster, it would be nice if it supported locations other than the airport codes, because not everyone has an airport nearby.
Other than those notes, it was a perfect breeze to install and get running, and the menu bar icons are effective and non-distracting. Nice work overall, it just needs a little polish to make it perfect. -
"Very nice app"

Think the ratings för this app is way to low. Seems to be a very wellwritten app! -
"I think this program is nice"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary

I'm not sure why the ratings for this program aren't higher. The interface is as nice or nicer than the freeware version of the latest WeatherPop. I would like to know a couple of things -
- What is the source of the weather data?
- is this product going to stay freeware over time?
- Will this app become open source over time?
Overall, though, I think it looks nice, plays nice and provides the amount of info that I want. There are alot of similiar weather apps, menu-bar or not, out there and I guess that means that there are a lot of different wants and needs in such an app. I would prefer an open source application like meteorologist but since that application is going through issues this will work ok in the meantime. WeatherPop is nice too but it's a little stingy with the info as a freeware app. -
"Not quite ready to be called 1.0"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The earlier betas seemed to work better (except for the occasional crashing). The lookups have definitely slowed to a crawl. Also not sure how it's parsing the ICAO data, KBHM (Birmingham, Alabama) shows up as (Usa (Alaska)). KBOS (Boston, Massachusetts) reads (Usa (Maine)). Looks like there's some work to be done on the US postal codes lookup. The ability to turn off Country and State would be just as good (and probably easier).
Adding Humidity to the data would be great. Not sure if the source from which the data is pulled includes that, but would be nice if it did.
Great potential! Keep it up! -
"Its ok"

Summary

Installed and worked fine for me. As stated previously the preference window stays on top, always - thats about the only downside. I can add the smaller local airports by their name whilst for larger ones I had to find its respective ICAO. -
"Concept good, execution needs work"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Probably a great produce for someone who lives close to one of the 2,518 airports that use ICAO codes (see http://www.airport-technology.com/icao-codes for more information). I live more than 100 miles from the closest airport, and so the program does nothing for me.
I appreciate the simplicity. Unlike some other reviewers, the program did almost exactly what it promised.
The one discrepancy is in the number of airports served. The information here on Versiontracker mentions "nearly 25,000" cities; ICAO codes only identify 2,500 cities.
This would be a four-star program if it used a larger number of locations. Allowing for expanded forecasts or even radar images would be great. A weather warning icon (perhaps one exists) would make a five-star program for sure (I live in tornado alley). -
"Force Quit!"
Version: Weather 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
1. Downloading the file is agonizingly sloooow (I have high speed. Apparently, they do not).
2. Searching by name doesn't work.
3. Searching by ICAO (for codes, try http://www.mapping.com/airportcodes.html ) didn't work for most local airports, and the one I thought might be actually be working had me waiting 5 minutes for the progress bar to go 1/2 inch, so I Force Quit the program via the utility Activity Monitor. It cannot be Force Quit via the Apple Menu.
4. Tried running it again, and it just locked up (spinning ball) on the preference window.
5. The preference window remains the highest most window... ALWAYS!! Crappy programming decision and very NON-Mac-like. So, to do anything else at the same time (like trying to force quit it) you have to peek and drag around the window.
In summary: USELESS!!! -
"hmmm...."
Version: Weather 1.0

Good idea now that Meteorologist is defunct, but it needs lots of work. What is that grainy malfunctioning-TV-like icon? (which I can't get rid of even after I clicked "text only"). Why can't I enter just zip-codes or city names? Hopefully 5 day forecast and radar images will be added soon. Will check for future releases.
