• Where does one begin?

  Pros

  Lots and lots and lots of features and the graphs are good.

  Cons

  The features don't work reliably, the displays are generally amateurish, the support is poor, and the software requires EXTENSIVE time and effort to comprehend.

  Summary

  Ok, I'm trying to use this with an Oregon Scientific WMR100. I've actually had the software and the ws for about 6 years. I initially dumped both after 2 years in favor of a Davis Vantage Pro station and Weatherlink IP s/w. That suite isn't perfect but at least it works reliably and it wasn't hard to set up. On the other hand, WeatherDisplay is impossibly bloated with unexplained features. The reason I'm trying to use it again is since I paid for it and I had the hardware and s/w doing nothing, I donated it to a local club and now I'm actually trying to get it working usefully. If you are a weather professional AND you are an internet "professional" AND you have the right operating system (I'm not sure which one the author is using) AND you luck out and get the weather station hardware which actually works with his software, AND you have a reliable, high speed internet connection AND perhaps you are just plain lucky AND you have unlimited time to search through forums and FAQ's ... then you'll probably give the s/w 5 stars. Otherwise, I would suggest you try something else. Or you could write your own, if you have the knowhow. I mean, the author HAS tried to put everything possible into his software and have it work with every possible weather station. You have to give him credit for that. But ready-for-prime-time? No. I could try to detail all the problems I've had trying to get this s/w to run but what's the point? At the moment I've spent maybe 30 hours fiddling and diddling with this and my patience is gone.

  Pros

  VERY complete; handles two different stations at once with same license (no added fees); wide range of support for differing stations; extremely tweakable; logs are very complete; large and enthusiastic user base which means most of your questions are answered on a forum somewhere; the program writer is available for questions although his answers tend to be short and sweet; support for the high-end Vaisala WXT520 station; HUGE base of tags for web page customization.

  Cons

  Tweakability means more time muddling through the myriad options. Options are sometimes buried too deep for easy access. Time needed (although forum usage helps) to learn all options (or options important to you).

  Summary

  Having tried most options out there, I bought WD. It is NOT a plug-and-play type solution, but it does things no other program does. If you want easy, use Davis WeatherLink (many weather geek pro-sumers use a VantagePro). If you want a nice, customized web weather reporting page, this program does it all.

  Pros

  I run this piece of software alongside Weatherlink and you can definitely tell the difference. Excellent support at all times. The best feature is the alarms which flash when a new weather extreme has been recorded.

  Cons

  There aren't any as far as I can tell.

  Summary

  A brilliant bit of software which is worth every penny. This software is never having problems like Weatherlink. It sits there doing what it is set up to do and always records weather events quickly and shows them in a clear manner.

  The program is bitsy, difficult to get running properly and virtually no backup or assistance for problems. Don't you just love software writers who issue updates with bugs?

  Summary

  I bought this app about two years ago. After a string of problems I eventually got it running well enough to read and display my weather station's output data. Then I recently downloaded and updated to the latest version. Big mistake! The program not only didn't work anymore it crashed my PC at any opportunity. I loaded the latest version on to another PC with similar results. I emailed the software writer outlining the problems and got a cryptic reply saying "Hmmmm..." and nothing else. Emailed again a week later - no reply. More emails requesting assistance - still no replies. Gave up after six weeks and bought another weather display program which was quite easy to set up and is running well. Would not recommend purchasing this app under any circumstances.

• WMR 200 Weather station users beware

  Pros

  Has everything a weather logging software could have, if you can find it through the layout!

  Cons

  DO NOT buy this software if you use the Oregon WMR 200 weather station. Although the software author states it is supported, there are a number of major issues relating to the logging function of the station that have not been fixed.

  Summary

  I've used the product for a number of years, and only feel committed to it because I paid US$70 for it - unaware that as a WMR 200 station owner I was buying a dud. For those using other stations it appears it works a treat, but it still is very expensive (comparatively) for a clunky but comprehensive weather software package.

• Buggy, Confusing with Poor Support

  The program shows promise with many features.

  Cons

  I've used the software for several years, There have been many bugs, many related to the accurate recording and reporting of data and many go unfixed for long preiods despite been reported. Support is amongst the worst I experienced.

  Summary

  I'm using the program as I have years of data collected with it, but I would not start a new weather station using this software. One thing a product like this needs to be is precise and tested, however that is not the case. The author seems to release new versions without testing them and then leaves the testing up to his paid users. The program is also very complicated and confusing to use. I have wasted alot of time and been very frustrated trying to get support to fix many of the bugs in the software. The author just dosn't seem to care.

  Pros

  The live weather applet is well done so hats off to whoever designed that. It is very nice and quite responsive.

  Cons

  The main program is very clumsy and poorly designed. It is in dire need of a major overhaul. As an alternative in the meantime try Davis's much underrated Weather Link program if you have a Vantage Pro or other station from that manufacturer. Virtual Weather Station (VWS) is capable and full featured but I don't favor it personally since its interface is not much better than Weather Display's. If you have a LaCrosse or Oregon Scientific weather station I would highly recommend FreeWX. That has the great virtue of being the only one of them which is free.

  Only a little worse than most other weather applications! I guess that's why some folk think it's great: by comparison only. The guy who wrote it is always online so the support you will no doubt require is available. Watch out though, I found him to be very touchy.

  Cons

  Where to begin? Why is this as bad as or worse than the other dismal weather applications out there? Well it's amateurishly ugly, and that's usually indicative of deeper problems. This program looks as if it was coded in VB by some kid at grade school. Some very poor design. See previous. Does the author own a dictionary? Or does he just not care about little details like almost illiterate help files and menu items? BLOATED. Not so much in size (some apps are bigger) but in layout. Man it's ridiculous. Just visit some stations using this software: dial-up or OC192, it doesn't matter, the pages this app creates takes forever to load into a browser. Maybe if the author wasn't so fixated on ugly, badly designed dials and other junk it might not take a day and a half to load the data into a webpage. Talk about 'kitchen-sink' software! Those aren't features ok, it's just plain old bloat. Oh and watch your highly optimized late model system slow to a crawl. It's the Norton Internet Security of weather apps. Why? I don't know, but uninstalling it fixed the problem, and it stayed uninstalled. And the biggest insult of all? The author wants to be PAID for it. $70 bucks for this steaming pile? Nyuh-uh Charlie. At least most of the other weather apps are free and often better quality - but if I'm stuck with crappy software I'm not going to pay for it!

  Pros

  This software is top class. it does everything I want and even more. Makes building a Weather Website that simple almost anyone can do it. The features are just too numerous to mention in a short feedback. You have to use it for some time to learn it's full benifits, building on what you have learnt. Improvements and new features are continously being added in newer versions. I would never consider using anything but Weather Display for my weather station and website requirements.

  Pros

  As a long time user of Weather Display I couldn't reccommend it any higher !! The support from the author and the entire user group is nothing short of fantastic. The author frequently adds new weather stations as they appear on the market and are requested by the users. Also there are frequent updates for additional features that users request.

  Cons

  It's very addictive !!
