CNET Editors' review
VersaTimer aims to keep users on schedule with a generous clock face and some added features. Users of all skill levels will find it a reliable tool for staying on track of multiple tasks at once.
This free program appears as an enormous digital clock face with red numbers. Below the cycling numbers are large buttons for starting and resetting the clock. The upper left of the clock face has a pull-down menu that lets users select different clock presets. Within the clock's Settings menu, VersaTimer transforms itself from a simple timer into an advanced reminder system. Users can set up a new timer and adjust the hours, minutes, and seconds, though this process is confusingly redundant with two different tools to adjust the clock. VersaTimer's big draw is its cycles function. Users can set smaller clocks within the larger timer to alert them at regular intervals. With three possible cycles, users can, for example, have an alarm sound once every 30 minutes while a five-hour timer is running.
VersaTimer succeeds because of its simplicity. We were pleased with its performance because it sticks to basics and offers some unique bonus features that doesn't complicate the overall picture too much. We recommend this download for anyone interested in keeping themselves on task.
Publisher's Description
From Lux Aeterna Software:
VersaTimer is a simple, yet very powerful, timer application with some unique features that makes it different from other timers. It can perform 'actions' with cyclic intervals, for example playing a custom sound every minute. Up to three different rules can be set up for each timer, which means three different actions can be performed, with three different cyclic intervals, depending on how far the timer has counted. It can also announce the time left with a sampled voice (in English). Up to 99 timer settings can be defined and saved, and with a few clicks you can select which timer setting to use (only one timer can be running though). The background and the LED display are customizable, you can select colors and make the background a gradient fill or use your own tiled bitmap.

"Generally, quite good and easy to use"
Version: VersaTimer 1.02
Pros
It's simple to download and the numbers are very easy to read.
Cons
The voice used to audibly announce the time is extremely flat and depressing. The display, although very easy to read, could be at least a third or more smaller.

"Pretty Nifty..."
Version: VersaTimer 1.02
Pros
Love the fact that you can use your own bitmap background and play your favorite(wav) song at timer's end.
Cons
A little large, takes up a good chunk of screen. Don't try reducing as it tends to merge with itself causing you to reload in order to operate it.
Summary
All in all the Versa Timer seems very capable with several extras that augment it's
' free ' status.. It's a perfect companion of the lux aeterna speaking clock (made by the same co.) and although the speaking clock has a count down timer, another one won't 'hoit'.. I say try it, you can't go wrong...
