"SUPER tool for the price"
Version: VBto Converter 2.44
Pros
Inexpensive - $99 for 30 day license.
Very good conversion. You still have to hand-edit some stuff, but that's to be expected.
Support is super - quick, helpful responses, and they provide quick updated beta s/w to test the solution.Cons
Has a few issues with .frx files and some 3rd party OCXs. These are easily solved by doing some hand-edits of the VB code prior to conversion.
Summary
I compared a few products to to my VB6 to C# conversion, VBto and VBUC among them. I tried the demo versions, and VBto's demo worked the best. And for $99, it would be hard to regret buying it (VBUC would be over $1000, which I'd REALLY reret if it didn't work well.).
Bottom line, this is a really great, low-cost product that gets the job done. I'd reccomend it to anyone. -

"Filled event log and couldn't find project small enough"
Version: VBto Converter 2.40
Pros
Looked like it would work well - if i could actually see it working....
Cons
1) Trial version doesn't allow enough lines of code
2) Filled my system event logSummary
This piece of software looks like it could have been really cool. I just wanted to see how well it converted VB6 to C#. I got frustrated trying to get it to work and jjust gave up.
The cons described more fully are:
1) I couldn't find a piece of class/module/... small enough to try this application out on on. I would find a module that was initially less than 800 lines and it would bloat it over the limit. Very frustrating...
2) It filled my System Event Log with messages.
first message:
Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
second message:
Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC90.CRT. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
third message:
Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\VBto Converter\VBtoConverterWrp.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.
and then it repeated messages 1-3 over and over and over.. helping to fill my system event log... -
"I was finally able to migrate to C++"
Version: VBto Converter 2.36
Pros
I have been using VB6 for years and needed to migrate to C++ MFC so that I could seriously move into the industry. I work in artificial intelligence and NLP. I've been toying with the idea of converting my code to C++ for over 2 years but was always hesitant because of the amount of work.
I found VBto on Google and decided to give it a try...
Its very easy to use... you just load in your VB project and it will convert it to a C++ project. (It converts to like 6 other types of languages too.)
To start... don't expect it to be 100% error free... it really depends on what you have going on with your project. I had to fix a few things... but they were all simple things and usually had to do with native differences between VB/C++.
Another thing you might consider is making a prototype of your project in VB6 and then convert it. What I mean is... make a project that includes only your core algorithms so that you don't end up with a mess on your hands.
Also, its a good thing to check the Sample Project included with VBto. It has 95% of the essential functions like Dir(), read text file, Instr(), etc, etc... so you want to check it so that your VB code reflects the syntax of these samples. That way VBto is sure to convert the code error free.
Anyway, VBto has finally allowed me to move to C++ and become a 'player'. Its definately good money spent and it will save you TONS of time. My core algorithm which is really processor intensive and includes 7,000 lines of code runs approximately 1.666 times faster. And I was able to convert it in 3 days... sweeet!
Cons
It was missing one or two functions I needed like Replace()... but it was no big deal.
