• Buggy and incomplete

  Pros

  You can add voices, update maps and firmware from it.

  Cons

  Continuously says my SD card is write protected, even when it's not. I have to reinsert it various times for it to get recognized. Cannot be used to add POIs from a file on your computer, have to manually copy them to your card once you can figure out where to put them. At least this is the case on my TomTom NB1.

  Summary

  Not very Mac-like, buggy and frankly surprisingly difficult to use. If it had not been for the in-car system, I'd have considered a GPS from a different company.

  Can update and configure device easily, purchase new maps, and purchase voices, add POIs, etc.

  Cons

  Some features (preferences) on the GO cannot be accessed from the Home application.

  Unnecessary care needed with street names that contain compass directions.

  Summary

  This product needs more up-to-date-access to streets added even two years ago. The internal battery is NOT particularly robust. Plan to use your vehicle accessory power outlet.

  Pros

  Tom Tom has frequent updates and stays connected to my needs. It's the user community that makes this product number one in my eyes.

  Cons

  There are still some areas I travel that don't have updated roads, mostly real estate new developments.

  Summary

  I chose Tom Tom because of the user community. The GPS it self is easy to use and works well on "blind tests". (choosing a random location and seeing if you end up where you ask) I would like a "restore" function that actually allows me to restore the unit to factory settings, my standard voice has some "glitches" that makes her "mumble" certain phrases.
