"Test Complete - Threat or Menace"

Pros
Support for many different Scripting languages, VBasic, Java, Cscript among others.
Useful display of window objects for apps that are running.Cons
The recorded scripts will work, but since TC is very brittle, the wise tester will author their own test scripts in order to attempt to prevent and manage script failures. Very minor errors will cause a script to fail.
Summary
I started using this product with Version 3.5. The transition to Version 4.0 nearly killed us, but I started authoring more robust scripts and we survived.
Now at version 7.0, things are finally stabilizing, but I still write as bullet proof script as I can because of TC's fragility. (e.g. When I get a window object, I use a technique that will try 10 times, before it gives up, reports an error and allows me to move on to the next test. Without it, if a timing or other issue delays the window's availability, TC will move on without the pointer to the window and the next several calls that rely on that pointer will fail horribly).
Further, I need to track the test cases that are being run and the requirements that the test cases are expected to verify. Additionally Bug tracking needs to be integrated into the product. Although Automated QA is coming up with their own application for this, interfaces into other sotware (HP's Quality Center, TestLog, Bugzilla, Axosoft Ontime) would go along way in helping the process.
My problem is that I don't know of a viable alternative.
HP's QuickTest Professional costs 10 times more and requires a .dll to be linked into the software to be tested in order to test software written in Delphi which accounts for over half of our software development. This in turn means that I cannot automate the testing of the build that we ship, but instead have to test a "test build". Not a good thing to do, especially with a product with such a high cost. -
"Consistently Crashes"

Pros
I have very few good things to say about this product.
Cons
This is an application to automate testing that hasn't been thoroughly tested. It crashes often with no error messages, and it often crashes my whole computer. Sometimes it just quits while I am typing and doesn't save my tests.
Summary
This is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever had the unfortunate luck of being forced to use.
