Publisher's description of SuperStorm
From Mindhills:SuperStorm allows you to hide your confidential files and folders in a wide variety of media files such as pictures, audio, video, and executable programs among many other file types. Your secret file will be physically wiped out and merged inside the media file. After the operation, your final picture, audio, video, or executable program will continue to display, sound, play, and function exactly like before.
To enforce security, you can define a password up to 10000 characters or use any file as your encryption key. You can also set a password to restrict access to SuperStorm and if any security settings are tampered or damaged, the program will repair them automatically. SuperStorm can be used to destroy any sensitive file on your computer. Physically overwritten, files cannot be recovered by any software or hardware. Version 1.52 fixes minor interface problems such as the empty file selection list in file browsing dialog windows.
Editor's review of SuperStorm
Despite a cluttered interface, this app proved simple to use and lets you quickly and securely store data files in a password-protected form embedded within media files.
SuperStorm initially looks confusing--its interface is cluttered with buttons, a number of fields, and some amateurish graphics. The appearance is a bit deceptive; what looks somewhat childishly designed actually works pretty well and is easy to use.
In our tests, this free app performed well. Selecting a data file and a media file in which to embed it was a simple matter of dragging an item in the apps file browser to the selected graphic. Clicking Execute created a new Output file--the media file with the embedded data file--in a matter of moments. We were then able to save it where we wished. There was no discernible change to the new media file, except that it was slightly larger than its original from 5,175KB to 5,775KB for one test item.
Creating a password to protect the new file is just as simple a process. Novices will quickly master this app. Experienced users may prefer a more robust app for securing sensitive files, but SuperStorm isn't really designed for industrial workouts.
