Learn traditional typing as well as a new variant style.
Amusing, yet multifunctional touch-typing tutor with support for several layouts, like QWERTY or Dvorak. After having gone through the fire, water and the course, you will be able to swiftly type away long e-mails (spam), efficiently misbehave in chat rooms, ICQ, and so on without ever looking at the keyboard.
Customizable, as other reviewers have said. One of the options some reviewers have missed is that you can get your speed in wpm
Cons
I'd like to see an unmoving block of text rather than a moving line. For a better idea of typing speed, it'd be nice to have an option to have errors only marked. I don't like being distracted by being bleeped at and having to correct a letter I'm already several characters past.

Good Freeware
katnip3
Pros
Great, simple interface. Hilarious menus, help, and other such things, but this is still a program that can help you learn.
Cons
The scrolling is annoying. I prefer static.
Summary
A great freeware. Good for those trying to learn Dvorak. Dvorak is a keyboard layout much more efficient than QWERTY keyboards. You computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) comes with it. For Windows XP users, go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab, click Details, and then add the keyboard.
It works!!!
lundiel
Pros
Characters are big enough to see easily. I like the phrases.
Cons
It plots progress in characters per min - I would rather words per min.
Summary
I learned to type using this product. I have only downloaded it again to get my speed up because I've not been doing any word processing for a few years. There may be better products out there but this one works for me - I would recommend it to anyone.
One Great Typing Tutor
trektek1
Pros
The typing tutor is fun to learn how to type with. Already I can see an improvement in my typing skills and I have only been using it a week! Love this Program! The music is customizable so you can listen to your favorite music while you learn!
Cons
The error sounds can be annoying but those can be turned off.
Summary
I like this program because it is customizable to what I want to do. The music, backround, and lessons are all customizable to what I want them to be. And best of all, IT'S FREE!!!!
Free and easily customized
la-nyu
Pros
- easily customize contrast and size of font (for people with low vision)
- plays humorous sounds (uh-oh, bark, etc) when errors are made
- easily input your own lessons
- FREE!
Cons
- a simple program, does not provide personalized feedback besides typing speed and error rate
- built-in lessons are not the greatest, but can customize your own
Summary
I've been using this with a touch-typing keyboarding group for people with low vision with excellent feedback from the students. The program allows users to easily customize the interface - change colors/contrast, size of font, turn on/off an on-screen keyboard. Users can also easily type in personalized lessons. I've been using it with Project Gutenberg (free online books) to type out some of my favourite novels like Pride & Prejudice to keep practice interesting. Users are also provided with generalized feedback on speed and error rate, but not specific feedback such as the keys that are giving the user the most problem. There's also the option of playing mp3s while practicing though I haven't used that feature.
Overall, a great FREE typing program that is very easily customized.
Easy to use
Family_Magick
Pros
Simplicity of use
Cons
Same old way of learning to type
Summary
This product was easy to use but I was hoping for a more original approach to learning how to type. For those that don't know how to type at all a more original approach to learning would make them more inclined to learn.
I like that it's on the desktopand it's fun to play
Kathz1
Pros
I like that you can pick how big the fonts so if your eyesight isn't very good any more there's no problem
Cons
I CAN'T THINK OF ANY THING I WOULD CHANG MAY YOU COULD HAVE A PRACTICE THAT WE HAVE TO RE-TYPE A MESSY PAPER FOR A BOSS OR SOMEONE
Summary
It helps to keep our fingers working so they won't freeze up
