In his latest adventure, Sega's franchise character moves from the Xbox to the PC. It's basically the same old Sonic game: Collect rings, turn Dr. Robotnik's monsters back into cuddly creatures, and career wildly through an animated world. A hefty amount of free content and impressive graphics make this demo definitely worth a look for fans of 3D platformers.

Six characters--Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails the Fox, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and a robot named E-102--tackle a variety of challenges in six worlds. Although each character has the same general movements, each has unique abilities. Knuckles' mountain climbing is especially impressive, as is E-102's homing laser; we wish we could say the same about Big's fishing. Gameplay is easy to learn, and glowing lights offer hints if you need them. You can play in either the full-screen or windowed mode.

As with past versions of Sonic, gameplay can be too easy, with accelerators, rockets, and bumpers often directing your character through the levels without much assistance. Even though the game originally was developed for the Xbox, the port doesn't support controllers. Controlling the characters with the keyboard is possible, but definitely not ideal.

Publisher's description

From Sega :

The renowned classic Sonic Adventure makes a speedy return as Sonic Adventure DX, featuring newly revamped graphics and an all-new mission feature that delivers never-before-seen gameplay modes. Combining action stages with adventure elements, this game is the ultimate Sonic title, providing an immersive and complete gaming experience for all true Sonic gamers.

The evil Dr. Robotnik has returned and is eager to begin his plans for world domination by the destruction of Station Square, where he plans to build his twisted utopian vision of Robotnikland. He has a scheme to use the seven Chaos Emeralds to empower the Chaos monster, which grows each time it consumes one of these magical emeralds. Sonic becomes entangled in this sinister plot and must enlist the help of his friends to foil Robotnik's every move and prevent the Chaos monster from becoming more powerful.

In this demo, you can try out six characters (including Sonic the Hedgehog himself) in a variety of levels.
