• Plugin Crashes a lot!!!

  Pros

  Great when it works, but it rarely works as it's supposed to.

  Cons

  I used to use this to watch TV online all the time. Then all of the sudden it kept crashing. It states that the Sling Player plugin is at fault. Slingbox does not have a Troubleshooting tip on this problem. So I've tried updating my computer, plugins, etc and nothing. It will work every once in a while but 10% of the time isn't worth it.

  Summary

  I would recommend not purchasing a Slingbox. Most cable companies have services that allow you to watch TV online. If Slingbox had no issues I would say purchase it because it's great. But it definitely has several issues and it will only frustrate you if you purchase one.

  Works great with Slingbox HD and Vista 64-bit.

  Cons

  Unfortunately, it comes with some malware embedded to CNET downloader. To be precise, cbsidlm-tr1_8-SlingPlayer-SEO2-10573277.exe file has coupon companion.exe embedded that can mess up your system badly. Luckily, my Norton blocked it. w.t. @ http://tarchala.net

  Found the program to be good thus far but have not tried it on the road yet.

• Sling is a Ripoff

  Pros

  It worked great for a few months after I bought the "Tuner" model - that is, until I downloaded their "update" and they quit providing free service.

  Cons

  My Slingbox Tuner hasn't worked for years - since the first time I downloaded their "update" after they stopped providing free technical service. I think they're a scam that just keeps you throwing $$ at them to keep their product functional.

  Summary

  Stay away unless you plan to give them $30/yr for their "service".

  I am very happy with this product, and can't think of anything derogatory to say. The internet is not perfect, but Sling Player is way above only acceptable. I use it every day, sometimes just listening to news while working on my computer..........

  Summary

  I have had a sling player for years, and over that time period I had many problems watching remotely. But with the current software I have not had any problems, even when I have a slower than optimum connection to the internet. I frequently use the Verizon web connection, run thru a Cradlepoint router, and still get a good picture.One trick I can use, if my connection is quite slow, is to let the player run for a few minutes and then back up a little bit. This seems to eliminate skips . I can use it while working on my computer, just listening to music or news in the background.
