Signature995 allows you to securely transmit and digitally sign PDFs, Office documents and zip archives quickly, affordably, and easily. It uses native PDF 128 bit RC4 encryption to restrict users from printing, copying text and images and modifying PDF files. Signature995 uses Microsoft Cryptographic technologies to provide 128-bit DES encryption, offering high level protection for your Internet communications, including legal documents and financial transactions. Signature995 employs Microsoft digital certificate technologies to create and validate digital signatures. It is powerful and easy to use. Signature995 supports PDF documents (*.pdf), Microsoft Office documents (*.doc, *.xls, *.ppt) and Zip archives (*.zip). Signature995 is free to both the sender and the recipient. Overactive sponsor pop-ups are the only mark against this simple freeware document-encryption tool. Signature995's very plain multitabbed, dialog-size interface takes only a few moments to learn. A small amount of extra instruction is easily accessed through a locally stored HTML page.

Signature995's tabbed interface starts on Encryption, which includes the common browse tool to find the file to encrypt. Enter a password twice and click a button to encrypt the document. The app handles PDF, DOC, XLS, PPT, UDPF, and ZIP files. Encrypted files can be decrypted only with this utility. The Decryption tab is almost identical, but only requires entering the password once.

The app includes additional functions to sign, SecureSign, Co-Sign, and Verify documents. All use the same Windows browse function to find files. Each is implemented with a simple button push. The process is quick and painless. The signed files are placed in the same folder as the originals.

Registering Signature995 removes the many pop-up Internet Explorer windows the app displays when opened. As freeware, casual users should be able to forgive the intrusive ads, but heavy users will probably soon tire of the frequent pop-ups.

  Version: Signature995 6.1

  "Free version opens a load of pop-up windows!"

  Pros: It worked, but the 30-second delay while a bunch of ads were displayed, PLUS the six pop-up windows it opens made it useless for me, even to test.

  Cons: Pop-ups galore. I would have settled for a watermarked evaluation version or something, to see if the product is worth paying for, but the whole pop-up thing has soured this for me. The uninstall appears to have been clean, it doesn't appear to leave spyware behind.
