Whether documenting a computer problem or a favorite Web site, many computer users will someday need to capture exactly what's on their computer screen. This program isn't the most powerful screenshot tool, but it offers almost everything an average user will need in a easy-to-use interface. The software allows users to save an image of the full screen, an active window, or any rectangular area as a graphics file. However, it can't take pictures of menus or documents that require scrolling. It offers editing features including cropping, highlighting, blurring, and resizing, but lacks annotation components such as text balloons or arrows. The interface makes it easy to manage several screenshots at once. All told, we feel comfortable recommending Screenshot Captor as one of the best freeware tools in its category.Publisher's description

Version: Screenshot Captor 2.78.01
"Useful, but can't handle scrolling"
Pros: Easy to use with <Shift><PrntScrn>, which enables user to crop image from screen of any specified size.
Cons: (1) Can't capture images which are too large to appear on single screen that require scrolling to fully visualize.
(2) Capture is restricted to rectangular images. Can't draw nonrectangular contours of desired image capture (e.g., human body).Summary: Very helpful, considering the price, but images larger than screen-size are difficult or impossible to capture.

"Does anything I need--from a discreet system tray icon"
Pros: This utility makes it quick and easy to take screenshots and save or print them quickly. I use it specifically to take a screenshot of a rectangle sized and located where I choose. A simple SHIFT+PrintScreen and a click and drag--and it's done! Easy!
Cons: There are a LOT of set up options, but that's the trade off you have to make for flexibility. And really it isn't that bad... I had it set up exactly how I wanted in five minutes.
Summary: This is exactly what I was looking for: a no-frills screenshot utility that lets me capture a specific portion of my screen (not merely the active window or entire workspace), and is very discreet and unobtrusive. I can set it up to run as a small i... read more >>
