• Poor choices of Keyboard Shortcuts/Modifier Keys

  Pros

  Nothing specific really, just another bare bones file manager that falls seriously short of hitting the mark as a potential replacement for Windows Explorer.

  Cons

  The author has choosen to ignore some of the basic design conventions specific to the target Operating System in terms of Shortcut Keys/Modifier Keys (see summary article below). Thus making the transition from using Windows Explorer to using SE-Explorer much more difficult than it need be.

  Summary

  I tried SE-Explorer and was actually very disappointed by the fact that instead of choosing to assign 'Windows Standard' keyboard shortcuts/action modifiers (such as the Windows default modifier of using the Ctrl key in Explorer and any other file selection dialog windows to select multiple files). New users will certainly find the authors decision to use non-standard shortcut keys/modifiers to be very daunting. They shouldn't have to try to learn and remember a whole new set of shortcut keys/modifiers just to use the software for file management and then ALSO have to remember the Windows standard ones to use in file selection dialogs (such as Open/Save windows called from software). Most software on the market (even ultra expensive proprietary image editing software like Adobe Photoshop use most of the standard Windows shortcut keys/modifiers to perform actions like 'Select all' (Ctrl-A), 'Copy' (Ctrl-C), 'Paste' (Ctrl-V), 'Undo' (Ctrl-Z), or even hold Ctrl key to select multiple items! (just like in Windows Explorer!). If not for these serious pitfalls I feel SE-Explorer could be a decent piece of software. But until the author learns that there are design standards for each OS that specify some very basic design standards that should be met when designing software for that particular OS (for example in some Operating Systems the option to set application preferences is located in the 'Edit' menu and is called 'Preferences', in others it's located in the 'Tools' menu and is called 'Options' and in others it may even be located in the 'File' menu and may be called either 'Preferences' or 'Options' or even 'Settings'), I feel the software is not really adequate for daily use by regular users who would otherwise be able to just 'jump right in' and start using it if the author had choosen to comply with the design conventions applicable to the target Operating System.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jul 1, 2012<p/>I went to the authors web site and downloaded what was supposed to be version 1.31 of the program and installed it only to discover that either it was packaged improperly and actually contained version 0.30 instead of 1.31 OR the author doesn't know how to create software installers that upgrade from previous versions. When the install finished I was given the option to launch SE-Explorer, which I chose to do, and instead of being presented with the 1.31 version what opened was the 0.30 version which was previously installed on my system. So I uninstalled the only version that was listed in my add/remove programs window and tried to RE-install the downloaded 1.31 package, only to once again be presented with the 0.30 version of the software when I launched it!!! I decided to try one last time, this time I manually removed the install folder and all of it's contents. Once again what installed was the 0.30 version!!

• Crashes in Windows 7 and will not explore .cab file

  Pros

  I can't think of any. Even though it's free, so are viruses.

  Crashes and does not work as described

  Summary

  I downloaded this application so I could explore the contents of .cab files. I'm using Windows 7 Premium and I'm an administrator on my PC, but the software would not explore any .cab files rendering it worthless to me.
