When you install and uninstall a lot of software, as we do, it's easy for your computer to become cluttered with a lot of useless leftovers. Registry Optimizer Free is a comprehensive tool that can scan for and get rid of invalid Registry entries, junk files, and privacy threats. Although the program did a very thorough sweep of our machine, the free version only allows you to correct three problems at a time.
The program's interface is straightforward, with a large Scan button and a few intuitive options for customizing how the program works. You can select any combination of four functions: Registry Clean, Privacy Sweep, Junk Files Removal, and System Optimization. For each one of these, a settings dialog lets you specify the types of items the program will scan for. We ran the full scan and Registry Optimizer Free came back with an impressive list of issues: 245 Registry problems, 327 potential privacy problems, and 118 junk files. Clicking the Cure button, however, only corrected three of these problems at a time. It is possible to scan and cure repeatedly, meaning that theoretically you could use the free version of the program to eliminate all of the problems, but that wouldn't be a very efficient use of your time. The program has an online Help file that answers some basic questions about what the Windows Registry is and how Registry Optimizer Free works, but as with all programs of this type, you will want to proceed with caution. Overall, we think that Registry Optimizer Free has an impressive set of features, but the limitations on the free version are a serious drawback.

Registry Optimizer Free is the tool I use for keeping a clean registry. I'm able to fully make use of it to work for the registry scan and repair. Because I have it in hand, easily get rid of the past bizzare registry problems.
Cons
It's the tool I chose for myself, and I'm using Vista. And I'm going to change to 8, without knowing if it's ok for that.
