This convenient war-based strategy adventure fits in your pocket but requires a hefty commitment to learn the rules of the game. Pocket War's interface is built for a Pocket PC handheld device. The game unfortunately has no tutorial, but does include with installation a handful of help files that take far too long to sift through. While the game has, given its format, primitive sound effects and basic 2D graphics, it's easily overcome by an interface that offers plenty of options to address various strategic challenges. To move your battle units, you set behavioral patterns (such as defend or explore) rather than simple commands to move right or left. The computer's programming is sophisticated enough that if a unit is left without direction, it will on its own shift to the most logical spot. Advanced features include the option to create your own units. One of the biggest drawbacks, aside from the game's difficulty, is the demo version's inability to save a game. Overall, for strategy fans this handheld game should provide hours of entertainment.Publisher's description
From MetalShard :Pocket War is a strategic turn-based war game much like the old Empire, or modern day Advanced Wars games. You start with a single city that can produce a variety of war machines. By choosing what to manufacture and sending orders to your troops, you give your men the guidance they need to vanquish the computer, but beware the computer will be trying to do the same to you.
Version 1.58 changes Pocket War by removing a lot of the randomness that used to be in the game. This allows the player to calculate the exact amount of damage a unit will do to a city, or another unit. This allows the player to make much more strategic moves. This version also removes all of the "futuristic" units and replaces them with modern day instruments of war and updates the images for all the units and cities to give Pocket War a more realistic look.
The installer includes both the PC and Pocket PC versions of the game.

Version: Pocket War 1.58
"One of the more interesting games for the Pocket PC"
Pros: It's a super fun game. I've been playing it for quite a while and it is still fun. The improvements in the new version make it even better. The new icons are better and the gameplay has improved since it is now less random.
Cons: Just wish it worked on my phone. How about a J2ME version.
