"Pinnacle Studio is a DISASTER and NOT recommended"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
The Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 100 hardware allows for easy connection of old video devices using Composite (RCA) Red, White, Yellow cables.
Cons
Even as of 2012, the product's user interface has numerous easily-replicated bugs, is extremely SLOW, CPU-intensive and very limited in regard to video editing effects and features; even for someone at an amateur / beginner level.
Summary
Pinnacle Dazzle STUDIO HD DVD is an extremely resource-intensive application. On my Core-i5 with 6GB RAM, the CPU stays peaked between 60% and 94% of CPU while rendering videos that are a mere 500MB. That's a resource pig. Also, the user interface where media is chosen and the video timeline is assembled is very sluggish; the context menus and option property windows are VERY slow to open. The #1 complaint I have, however, is that the rendering process HALTS if the screen-saver launches and/or you manually lock (WINDOWS KEY+L) the computer. That is absolutely the biggest oversight yet; no one wants to wiggle the mouse or disable screen-saver preferences just to suit one application.
Also, despite have purchased a license, in-app nag advertisements are STILL presented and nearly 90% of features are considered PAY-FOR add-ons which are displayed as links that take you to their storefront. Lame and pathetic.
Additionally, there are significant bugs in the Pinnacle Dazzle STUDIO HD DVD Version 14 release, as of May 2012, and they are easily replicated.
Amongst the list is a GREEN SCREEN that suddenly appears in the Preview window, while working in the Edit pane, instead of the photo or video that is otherwise shown in the timeline at that location. The only way I was able to get rid of the green screen was to click FILE then DELETE AUXILLARY FILES (ALL). And, no, I didn't have Chroma Key enabled.
The other consistent issue I have experienced is, again; while editing, the Preview window will only show the photo or video that is at the currently-selected location in the timeline when Play was clicked.
I am forever in wonder if companies like Pinnacle have a QA quality assurance department at all. If it weren't for needing the Dazzle hardware, I would certainly be returning this product for a FULL refund.
In summary, I would not recommend this sluggish, limited product to anyone. I've used PROSHOW GOLD in the past and felt that it out-performed Pinnacle's product, hands down. -
"Pretty good."

I don't have much to compare it with other than 'Movie Maker'.

"Slow, awkward, not user friendly, freezes for no reason"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
Good graphics
Cons
Terrible response and space utilisation, freezes constantly for no, apparent reason, pathetic customer support(except when trying to sell you something). Overall overpriced and under peformed

"Didn't work as advertised"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
Loved the appearance and user interface.
Cons
I guess I'm just stuped-38 years as a systems analyst didn't help me to get this stuff working as advertised. I tried it with the highest hopes, having over 100 VHS tape and almost as many rrecords to rescue.
Summary
Never did get this stuff to work as advertised. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!

"Output quality is pixelated"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
It does make full length movies with pretty good effects
Cons
Slow, crashes, but so does MovieMaker. Movie Maker is much smoother. I have a sony camcorder and the quality is pretty good going in but sucky whether I make DVD best quality, MP4 or anything... So frustrated
Summary
If it wasn't for the output quality, I would be happy with my purchase. The tracking and pixelation are embarrassing.

"Outstanding mid priced video editing package"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
Have owned several versions up through 10.7 plus. Package is used several times every week to edit video for local Public Access TV. Easy to get new videographers online.
Cons
Final rendering is slow but plan to complete those tasks off shift so this can be worked around. Will be upgrading to newer version for HD, so we hope rendering speed is improved on current version.
Summary
A good compromise software for pro consumer use. The full pro editor at our disposal is seldom used by the videographers due to the unneeded features and complexity.

"Unstable rubbish"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
1. The cute little windmill thingy on the splash title
2. Errr ... that's it.Cons
A scandalous piece of crap software that crashes ALL THE TIME. If it this was not licensed but sold like any other product the company would be long dead under a pile of lawsuits and demands for compensation for wasted time and unfitness for purpose.
Summary
If you value your sanity, avoid. Honestly.

"Crap software. SLOW----------------CRASH CRASH CRASH"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
NO Pros. I literally have never (attempted to use) used "software" that crashes this much.
Cons
SLOW. Slow. Slow Crashes. Crashes. Lags. WASTES YOUR TIME. Not user-friendly or intuitive. Cumbersome.
Summary
To give you some background: I am profficient with music and video editing software such as adobe premiere, cubase, fruityloops, cool edit and protools. My dad got this "software" so that I could come over and help him do his dvds for his business. After 5 unsuccesful weeks of trying, I had to bring everything over to my house to capture and edit on Adobe. I didn't realize just how intuitive and logical Premiere is until I could compare it to a piece of crap program like Pinnacle.
Man; I would feel too dishonest and disgusted with myself to take advantage of innocent customers with sub-standard "software" like this.
Oh, and I have tried this on both XP and Vista, multiple computers, multiple times--so it isn't like I haven't given it enough chance. -
"Pinnacle 14 also BAD BAD BAD"
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
BASIC EDITING AND PRODUCING
Cons
NO ADVANCED FUNCTIONS WILL MAKE IT TO COMPLETION AT ALL!
Summary
FIND ANOTHER PROGRAM!

"Buggy, crashes all the time in Windows Vista/XP."
Version: Pinnacle Studio Plus 12.1
Pros
It hardly works for me in Windows Vista. So nothing to like. Installs fine but crashes even after numerous re-installations.
Cons
1 Buggy, crashes repeatedly AVCHD/non-AVCHD. 2 Horrendous CS: Tried desparately to get support for 3 yrs (bought 10, 12 v). CS hardly cares! Suggests only one thing re-install!
3 Searched numerous forums/sites; endedup more of others' horror expSummary
I bought this twice Ver 10 and Ver 12 studio plus after their ad about AVCHD suport. Both installed fine. But it crash badly. Forget AVCHD support even couldn't get any regular format movies. I have high end Windows Vista box with Quad processors and 4 GB memory. I'm a technical guy and have played with enough of such video editing softwares. Customer support simply sucks and doesn't help. I've experience using Sony Vegas etc and I'll prefer them always. Even though Sony suport is bad, I know Vegas works and could make movies out of AVCHD format. Waste of time and money. This is piece of junk as other reviewers called here and somone should sue this company for fooling customers.
