CNET Editors' review
PS3 Media Server for Mac is a UPnP media server designed to stream most media files with a minimum of configuration required between your Mac and PlayStation 3 console. It installs cleanly; there are no codec packs to install, as they are part of the package.
PS3 Media Server for Mac lets you select a folder or multiple folders on your machine that will be shared with the PlayStation 3. From the PS3, you can browse the contents of the shared folders and launch any file there, with the file conversion being handled by PS3 Media Server for Mac. To test PS3 Media Server for Mac, we used an iMac and shared a folder on an external drive containing a number of movie files, then used wireless networking to stream them through to our PS3 and TV. It worked flawlessly, and PS3 Media Server for Mac supports all the standard video file formats.
PS3 Media Server for Mac is DLNA compliant and worked with all our test files. The real-time video encoding from Mac to PS3 was fast enough that we saw no artifacts. We did try using this with our Xbox 360, too, and got file playback from that, as well. PS3 Media Server for Mac works well.

"If it worked it would be great."
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.72.0
Pros
Plays MP4 files okay, no problem there.
Cons
I have yet to play an AVI file all the way through without it stuttering or stopping completely
Summary
If they get the problem with the AVI files fixed it would be an awesome program. I checked the forums and someone said the reverted to version 1.6, so I tried that and still had the stuttering and stopping problem.

"Worked first time and every time"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.60.0
Pros
Easy set up
Cons
None I've found yet
Summary
Great simple free product for streaming from your Mac to a PS3 or other supported device. Works great with my Samsung smart TV as well.
-
"Worked in 2 minutes after download!"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.50.0
Pros
Fast.
Easy once you know how it works.
Lots of options for video quality (haven't tested them all yet)Cons
Not the best file structure. Sometimes hard do find something if you don't manage your folders well.
Summary
So far, I'm pleased. You also have to know that it is a playstation and it's not really made for being a full options media hard drive. Keep that in mind, and you'll be satisfied.

"Tried all three, Vuze was free and worked."
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.50.0
Pros
Didn't work, when the Medialink worked just a few minutes prior, and Vuze worked right after. Complicated, help window didn't help at all for my mac.
Cons
Didn't work, when the Medialink worked just a few minutes prior, and Vuze worked right after. Complicated, help window didn't help at all for my mac.
Summary
I tried medialink trial, PS3MediaServer (didn't work at all), and Vuze which has a beta feature of sharing files between mac and PS3. It worked GREAT. So easy, just moved the files over to the PS3 panel and was streaming within minutes (mp4 video). Intuitive, didn't need to read the help window to get it started. Vuze is a bit torrent client or something!? But it worked great for what I needed, which was to stream video wirelessly from my mac lion to my ps3+hdtv, and best of all it's free.

"Worked only the first time!"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
Would work great, if I could use it more than once
Cons
It only worked the first time I tried.
Summary
I tried this twice. BOTH times, I was super excited to have all my media on my tv through my ps3. However, after shutting off my ps3 or my computer, I was never able to get the program to work again. After this happened the first time, I uninstalled and downloaded again, only to have the same exact thing happen again. Anyone know of a better program that actually works?

"Easy to use with Mac thanks to CNET "how to" video"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
Small File Size.
Tabbed, Easy to Follow GUI
Quick Connections and LoadingCons
Would be complicated without CNET "how to" video instructions
File structure on PS3 looks clunky
No video or album art on PS3Summary
This works very well on a Mac, but as an Apple TV user, I'm not sure if there is a reason to stream on my PS3 instead. I love having a media server and if you don't have an Apple TV, check this out - it's a fun and functional tool.
-
"Great software that does its job."
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
Streams most files. Playback on my PS3 is great. Music streaming is magical. Great sound.
Cons
Stream of websites still need working on.
Summary
Great free software to have for Mac users to stream to their PS3. Through future updates it can only get better. This software is a must have.
-
"Requires Java 1.6+... doesnt work with 32-bit macs"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
Works well on the right computers
Cons
doesn't work with anything under java 1.6, so 32-bit macs won't work with the application

"PS3 Media Server"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
great!... In theory. The first time I tried it, my iMac found my PS3 and I was lov'in life.
Cons
It only worked once. I tried10 times. Even downloading it again. Nothing worked. The software was never able to see my PS3. I kept getting the error message: java.lang.out of memory. error. I found different software that worked.
Summary
did not work for me.
-
"Couldn't get video working"
Version: PS3 Media Server 1.20.409b
Pros
Great with audio. Can listen to my iTunes collection on my Sony Bravia TV
Cons
Videos wouldn't work on the TV. Got the message #--TRANSCODDE--# for each format video I tried. Instructions said "should work straight out of the box, if not try this .." which I did but it still didn't work.
Summary
If I had a deep technical knowledge of video formats, encoding etc I could probably work out how to do it but if it doesn't work first time it's no use for me. Can't complain too much as it's free.
