"Glitchy program, useless as a trial."
Version: PROMT Standard Translator MULTILINGUAL PACK 9.0
Pros
For short and simple translations, it might work.
Cons
The add-ins for MS Office wouldn't load and the standalone translation platform doesn't maintain Word formatting, the platform also crashed and required closing from Task Manager. Even the uninstall crashed. Glitchy, badly-built program.
Summary
The add-in for MS Office (Word 2007, in my trial usage) failed to load correctly due to a runtime error. This meant it was not possible to test the translation facilities within Word. So I tried to use the standalone translation platform, however this loses most formatting, so document translating would be painful and frustrating. However I didn't even get to the perseverance test that is re-formatting because the software crashed whilst translating. I re-loaded and it recovered the file, so I tried to save it quickly, but it doesn't save it into another .doc file, it just saves it in a promt file which reopens in the translation program. Text can be copied and pasted into anywhere pastable, though, so that wasn't a complete loss.
Judgin the actual translation abilities of the program, I wasn't that impressed. Individual words were translated and so many phrases are inverted or muddled. Complex plurals (eg "improvement works") were translated incorrectly ("improvements works"). I tried to look for technical dictionaries, but (surprise!) that wouldn't even load before crashing. All in all in a short time I ruled out purchasing this software. Frustrating, glitchy and unimpressive results. Might as well use free online translation facilities.
