    "Laplink PC Mover is awesome!"

    March 31, 2014   |   By amirrie

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

We loved Laplink PC Mover! Here at TutorTutors.com we use the computer all the time, so when Microsoft alerted us on our computer XP here last week to move all the files and the programs because their XP support is ending in a couple of weeks - it suggested to us to use Laplink, to move all those important student and tutor files and registration pages. So, we hurried last week and implemented this wonderful program Laplink PC Mover to move all our files and folders to our new Windows 8 computer. It took several hours but it went without a hitch! Thank you so much PC Movers!!! :)

    Cons

    No cons! It was perfect!

"From windows7 32 bit to new windows8.1computer; worked!"

    March 31, 2014   |   By TexasRebel2

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

Followed instructions to the letter and it worked using the proved ethernet cable. Finished in less than 6 hours. Not bad for a 72 year old techie. Last fall moved a windows7 to a new windows 7 computer; that worked also.

    Cons

The charge appears to be for each pc to pc transfer -- not a one time user charge. They do not say this very well. so I bought it for each move.

    "Works like a charm!"

    December 14, 2013   |   By pgl515

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

Set it up, leave it alone for a couple of hours and PRESTO: new computer is totally loaded with everything you want from your old desktop.

    Cons

The only con is that you have to read the instructions.....which at first might seem a little daunting...but if you DO read and follow the instructions this software totally works and makes moving to a new computer totally painless.

    Summary

I LOVED not having to look for all my old software cds, serial numbers, etc. PCmover moved all my photos, music, software, word files, etc. with no problem. Terrific piece of software ~ will use it everytime I get a new computer.

    "Horrible Product"

    November 13, 2013   |   By BronxBoi

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

The is nothing positive about this product

    Cons

Product does a very poor job of application transfers. In addition, the registry and permissions are usually left in a corrupt state but you will not know until you start to experience bizarre errors. Stay away from this product if you value your sanity.

"Had Problems but Laplink Made it Right"

    August 13, 2013   |   By vabutter

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

    Good customer support from Laplink!

    Cons

I was unable to get PCMOver to work for me and used iYogi support to no avail... however Laplink made things RIGHT - see below.

    Summary

I bought PCMover to migrate from a failing laptop to a new HP desktop. I installed PCMover on both machines but it would not run. I had a huge number of applications and ton of data (over 300GB). My plan was to migrate one or two applications at a time. I used the iYogi transfer assistance and was "talked into" buying a $169 annual support plan. I spent 5 or 6 hours on the phone with the iTogi tech and still could not get PCMover to work. All that is the bad news. The good news is that I contacted Laplink to complain and they were terrific. Not only did they refund my PCMover purchase but also made sure I got refunded the iYogi charges. And they used my problems to improve the product and service and also gave me some free software to help ease the pain. Laplink support is exceptional and appreciated.

    "PCMover works the BEST!"

    August 01, 2013   |   By JackDaniell

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

I have tried many products over the years for migration from an older PC to a newer one. PCMover is the best and most accurate software I have ever used for doing this important function.

The Microsoft utilities do a fair job of moving the Microsoft programs, settings and associated data, but PCMover is much better.

I have continued to check my 40+ applications over the last few weeks looking for problems in the migration, but I continue to find success stories. Applications hide files in "\Windows", "\Windows\system", "\Windows\system32", "C:\", "C:\Program Files", "My Documents" (in its many flavors), all over the registry, email and rules, drivers, system services, etc. The list seems endless, but PCMover is up to the challenge.

I don't hand out complements often, but PCMover is "worth its weight in gold".

    Cons

My only Con was that sometimes the newer Windows (Windows 7 in my case) may have a compatibility problem with an older program. That is not a PCMover problem.

    "Superb piece of software..."

    July 10, 2013   |   By Prytaneion

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

Picks up a lot of files that other software can't see. Have a look at my feedback below.
Saw a drive that Recuve could't.
Migrates softewar and settings as if it had been installed on the new PC.
Support from LapLink is second to none in my view.

    Cons

There must be some points against - if I find one I'll let you know.

    Summary

After a particularly nasty virus attack, I was left with a HDD which at first glance seemed to be dead. On further inspection, it appeared that the files I needed were intact but ther was no MBR or FAT. I did a lot of searching about the internet for a solution. There are apparently not many programs out there to help. Most recovery software did not even see the disk.
One that claimed to be able to help however was Laplink's PC Mover (http://www.laplink.com/index.php/individuals/pcmover-for-windows-8/feature-overview) . I explained to their Custmer Services Dept that all I had left was a Maxtor drive that would not boot but had some irreplacable files on it. Reading the stuff on their web page it seemed too good to be true - and you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true... However, thier CS guy convinced me to buy PC Mover Ultimate.
I nipped over to their site, conveniently paid with paypal and downloaded. Within an hour I had a fresh copy of XP installed and my original files on board ready to go.
I have a lot of software from downloading with no disks so imagine my delight when all my old stuff was not only installed but running.
I have now gone a stage further and migrated the lot onto a new lappy running Windows 8.
Thank you Laplink for a truely great piece of software and Ray (a really nice bloke) at their Customer Services for his advice. You've all made my Christmas card list! :0)

    "Smoothly working application"

    June 17, 2013   |   By drbyte1204

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

Programs, files, settings and much more were transferred effortlessly.

    Cons

Some of my much needed files and folders were not transferred as I specified and also Windows was not selected, it transferred as well. That didn't work well at all since a new operating system was already installed on the destination drive, and I ONLY wanted some of the files and folders existing on the old drive to be transferred to the new drive.

The BIG downside is that you only have ONE chance per key to have your selected programs, files and folders transferred.

On well, I guess somebody must think I have several wads of $60 lying around to buy a new key.

    Summary

Transfer was easy to do, but didn't transfer some of my selected files and folders, but transferred Windows. And there's NO other chance to retry the transfer on the same key.

"This is the best thing since sliced bread!"

    May 05, 2013   |   By Charles1058

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

    very easy to use

    Cons

We had no problems except the following the summary.

    Summary

I purchased a new computer, and was told by a friend about PCmover.
I purchased a pcmover professional from Fry's Electronics in Las Vegas and five hours later, everything from my old computer was moved over to my new computer. The only problems were: 1: I had to reload my Quicken 10 program. 2. I had to call microsoft and
obtain their permission and assistance in moving microsoft "streets and trips" 2010...to the new computer which they did at no cost, and 3. I had to contact NERO and obtain their permission as well as pay an upgrade charge of 37.95 to getNero to work.( I had originally purchased Nero 6 a couple years ago and the upgrade was to Nero10). I was very surprised to learn theLOTUS123 program as well as all the spreadsheets, which date back to 1987,were on the new computer and worked perfectly. (I had tried toload LOTUS from the original disk before I heard of PCmover but it would not load.)
As it turned out the above 'NEW' computer was a piece of junk and I was forced to buy another new computer in April 2013, both were Windows7. I contacted PCmover and purchased a license to use the system a second time. This is where my problems began. When I called PCmover, it didn't take long to learn that they had sold me a license for the home addition, instead of the professional addition which I had originally purchased. They immediately changed this to the professional addition, and I started again. Again I was having problems, so I contacted their help line number ending in 9644. This is on the other side of the world, and within a matter of minutes, I was told that my problem was my computers were infected with viruses, which would have to be removed before the system would work. The cost was going to be 152.00 dollars. I told them I would not accept that charge and proceeded to solve the problem myself. The problem turned out to be that I had PCmover 7 on one computer and PCmover8 on the other computer. Once I changed and got both computers on PCmover 8, again in 5 hours everything was moved from the old computer to the new computer. The bottom line is PCmover is fantastic, but PCmover contractor to provide technical assistance is nothing but a bunch of crooks. I dealt with them for many hours last fall when I was having trouble with that first computer, and after 10 hours on the phone and an offer to debug my computers at that time at a cost of 350.00 dollars, which I did not accept,I hung up and did not call back. The problem there was the computer was defective, not the data in it. The only nice thing is PCmover works so great, you will never need to contact the contractor pirates.
