"Great software that's no longer available"
Version: OpenFX 1.5
Pros
Easy to use, great effects, support for opening 3DS objects, and the last version available now supports hardware rendering, which is faster than the software rendering. I've found it to work with Windows Vista.
Cons
No longer available. To make it work with Windows Vista, you have to run it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
Summary
Good to go if you already have a copy; if not, don't even bother.

"Get the latest version"
Version: OpenFX 1.5
Pros
Now has particle system and GPU rendering among other improvements.
Cons
Interface hasn't changed much over the years.
Summary
There is a much more up to date version of this program (version 2.08) available from the Queens university website. Go to Openfx dot co dot uk for a link.

"Good Software For Newbies"
Version: OpenFX 1.5
Pros
I recommend this software to anybody who wants to do 3D animations. It is very good software if you just want animation.
Cons
I don't think the quality is very good if you want to do really good animations. It won't work if you're trying to copy the 3D done in movies. To get that good to need to spend money.
Summary
Nice free software for a person that wants to do quick and easy medium-quality 3D animation. Not for people wanting to do really high quality 3D. Overall, very good software.

"Well worth a try"
Version: OpenFX 1.5
Pros
This is a well established program with a lively new users forum. There are a lot of clever tools in both the modeling and animation modules. A new version is due by the end of September. Openfx has full modeling, animation and rendering capability. The animation presets and postpro effects are great. Easy to use.
Cons
Looks slightly old fashioned.
-
"It's great."
Version: OpenFX 1.5
Pros
It comes with a designer. It comes with animation. It can easily be created into a movie just by rendering.
Cons
A little hard to design.

"Good alternative to Blender"
Version: OpenFX Build 251
Pros
This program has been around for many years, was originally a commercial program called Softfx. It does not have the snazzy interface of new programs but there is a lot of power there. In the modelling module you have bezier curves, build from plan, booleans and dozens of other tools. Animators have some really clever presets such as twist, wave and fall which can be used with just a couple of clicks. Good built in raytracer and post image effects such as lens flare, fog, volumetric lighting etc. Powerful program and easy to use.
Cons
Not exactly a massive amount of support! There is still some life in the email list but the website is only rarely updated. More info and some tutorials can be found at Queens University Belfast website. (do a bit of searching!)

"Looks promising"
Version: OpenFX Build 251
Pros
Well...its free!
Cons
Unable to explore it any depth as it kept self-terminating. Obviously a few bugs to iron out.
