"Does what it days on the tin, good job"

    March 10, 2014   |   By GrahamTheHat

Version: Opal-Convert VCF to CSV to VCF (vCard) 2.35

    Pros

Easy to use, excellent support options (untested but they look great). Genuine bit of software I am happy to pay the asking price for. I use it to export and import CSV files of email addresses between Sage ACT!, Excel (for quick tidying exercises) and roundcube Webmail Address books (and groups)

    Cons

None that I've found so far - it does ask you to create a review once you've finished an operation, which isn't a "Con", more a comment.

(wish it could help me spell - does what it SAYS on the tin, not DAYS on the tin lol)

"Thorough, worked well and the author was supportive."

    December 19, 2013   |   By GordRa

Version: Opal-Convert VCF to CSV to VCF (vCard) 2.33

    Pros

I love the fact that you can try this out before buying the full program. I was very uncertain about finding any program that would do what I wanted and once I tried the free version, I was very impressed.

I found the, (paid version of the), program to be very thorough and worked very well. The author was also very supportive. The program has some very useful options to create the output I needed. One example was to customize the column/field headings to match my SQL database field names which made it easy to populate the DB. Plus it remembers the customizations, even after a reboot, without having to specifically 'save' changes. It has some documentation that is worth the read to learn how to use the 'advanced' features.

Both the Trial and the full program uninstall and re-install easily without any hiccups and you don't need to set a restore point. JV16 power tools will clean up the registry of any traces left by the program.

    Cons

A bit nit picky, but here are some suggestion:
    1. Have the option to choose how many rows show up in the preview window.
    2. Having an option to rearrange the columns. (Although, using a spreadsheet to do this works very well.)

Just found out that Opal-Convert doesn't store anything in the registry which is a huge plus in it's favor. A very cleanly installing program.

    "Go Elsewhere"

    December 09, 2013   |   By AGearHead

Version: Opal-Convert VCF to CSV to VCF (vCard) 2.33

    Pros

It sort of works as a demo.

    Cons

This is crippleware. 10 card limit. Is not visible to Revo Uninstaller. Requires some manual directory removal. If you insist on trying this, be sure to set a Restore Point to protect your system.

    Summary

Notwithstanding the increase in version number, it is still the same bad program reviewed in 2012 by nadohvat.

    "Finally, a converter that WORKS!"

    September 24, 2013   |   By lucaferr

Version: Opal-Convert VCF to CSV to VCF (vCard) 2.31

    Pros

I tried a lot of CSV-VCF converters, using CSV exported from MS Outlook. 99% have some problems, for example they lose some fields or do not generate 100% compliant vCards.
This is the only one I've found that works PERFECTLY!
    - It has a rich formatting and encoding support: I appreciated how it's possible to customize encoding of both CSV input (encoding, delimiter, quotes, ...) and output (encoding, EOL, names, single/multiple vCards, ...)
    - It has a very well made field-matching GUI
    - And now the most important feature: VERY FAULT-TOLERANT! My CSV exported from Outlook was quite dirty (not surprisingly...) and the Opal software was able to figure out everything by itself, while other softwares simply produced wrong vCards or forced me to manually adjust the CSV to have a good output.

    Cons

None, it has solved all my migration problems (from Outlook to Roundcube, with a huge addressbook)!

"demo version invisible on disk, impossible to uninstall"

    August 26, 2012   |   By nadohvat

Version: Opal-Convert VCF to CSV to VCF (vCard) 1.52

    Pros

the demo version interface looks nice, but it's impossible to check the result as the "save" functionality is disabled

    Cons

Demo version "invisible" on disk and hence impossible to uninstall!!! At installation time the installer asks to choose an install directory, but nothing gets written there at all. Even the setup executable file (launched from the browser's download history window) is nowhere to be found. Can't imagine anything worse.

    Summary

If you don't like the idea of things getting installed on your computer without you being able to remove them, don't even try this demo version -- which is of very little use anyway.
