• Fast paced fps great for a fast and furious deathmatch

  Character skins are a bit goofy. Can be a bit resource hungry for a game based on a modified Quake 1 engine.

  Fun twitchy fast first person shooter perfect for networked deathmatches with AI that's not too dumb. Oh, and guaranteed fun for the price of a download. Did I mention it's way fun too!

  Don't get this game here; get it at Soruceforge. It will always be updated there. <p> <p>I don't know how old the editor review is fir Nexuiz, but the new release, 2.4, is atounding; much more than what CNET likes to claim (when they're not loving over Windows Vista...ugh). Nexuiz is a cross-platform first person shooter that has some of the nicest graphics to come out of any free FPS game, and can run on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. <p> <p>The game is beautiful. Seriously. While it isn't Gears of War or Crysis, I can seriously say that it still looks mighty fine; perhaps closer to Unreal Tournament 2004 (and beating it in some cases). This isn't a knock on the game's performance, either, becuase the new 2.4 release streamlines the momeory and lets things speed up a bit. Considering how high quality 2.3 was, most users will have little trouble running this excellent game. <p> <p>2.4 bringa an outstanding new UI (covering up that old piece of garbage), a pair of new maps, and a few hints of what it to come for Nexuiz in the future (Assault and Onslaught, yes way). The game was already polished and fun and fast, but as the years go by it's becoming faster and more fun to play. <p> <p>Unlike some online free FPS games (Alien Arena) the weapons are excellent, giving a sense of power when you wield them. The maps are also great (again, unlike AA), showing off just what kind of quality open source programs can bring. The fans are a great community, and there's tons of tricks to learn about the game before you hit the online arena. <p> <p>For those without internet, the bots are better than ever, and the single player campaign is much more capivating thanks to the new UI. While it may get old soon, a plethora of maps keeps the action moving.

  You will need some computer to play the game correctly. On my computer, a 2.0 Ghz with a measely 256 MB RAM and a dusty Geforce 2 MX, I was able to play the game with excellent textures and most of the features turned off. Anything less, I'd have to say no. While Nexuiz is great and all, it's not the most stable graphics engine in the free FPS market. <p> <p>The game would be rated either Mature or a boarderline Teen, for blood and violence. It's a bloody game, to be sure. Parents, I suggest watching the game as they play and ruling yay or nay, because it's a bit gory. <p> <p>It's also getting pretty big. 390 MB? Ugh. I don't know about this site's "190 MB" junk but it's official release is pretty gigantic. <p> <p>And yet, I can't give it any less than five stars. A wonderful game that is also free to boot, really, deserves anyone's attention.

• Tension! Fast action! Insane graphics!

  Pros

  At age of 14 it took me 6 hours to download shareware of Quake 1... after that it took me hours and hours of tension,claustrophobia, sleepless nights and a lot of fun to complete the campaign! An addict was born! Played -my alltime favorite- Quake 2, Quake 3, Unreal, Unreal Tournament. AND NOW NEXUIZ: great action, creative maps, and... it's for free (?!!!).

  Pros

  The graphics are good. This is amazingly complicated for a free game. It is very easy to customize hotkeys and game settings. It is free. It is like battelfront or whatever but it is free. I highly recommend this. It is simple compared to battlefront obvioulsy but it IS FREE!!

• "Freeware Version" of UnrealTournament, but with Graphical Issues

  The type of game is definately derived from UnrealTournament, which back in 2000 was a great game itself. Though it does not have so many options and settings as UnrealTournament itself, it is a formidable comparison to GT Interactive's striking game for Windows 7 1/2 years ago. <p>Definately unbeatable for a game of such magnitude: It is for free!

  Cons

  Despite reducing the graphic settings the game is full of flickering and graphic errors (at least when using the Core Duo MacBook Pro), which let your eyes hurt after a while and spoil the fun somewhat.
