I can find no reason to install this software if you like to keep your data in your own hands.
Cons
MySQL is one if not the most popualar database software in the world, it is now owned by Oracle Corporation, the publisher of this software is in China. http://bbs.mysql.cn/index.php

Pros
I like MySQL server. You can have it up to date with tools for upgrading and configuring MySQL. Monitoring and adjusting MySQL settings that will tune, scale and maintain performance. In production, you can setting-up and monitor the status of MySQL replication with a simple and easy to use interface.
Cons
It shows poor performance when used for Data Warehousing; this is partly due to inability to take advantage of a cluster of CPU cores for processing a single query. Despite all this, this is the preferred database for web developers.

MySQL is good. If that's all that was involved, I would recommend this download.
Cons
This download will install the Claro toolbar on all your browsers, and set your homepage to Claro's search engine, even if you tell it not to. I shudder to think what it will do if you actually tell it to install Claro.
Summary
Don't download this. Go directly to mysql.com and download the community edition. It will say it wants information from you, but at the bottom of the submit form, you can click a No Thanks button, and download directly, without any AdWare.

hundreds of people on message boards everywhere trying to download,iinstall the "free"?? database 5.1* days of reinstalling, finding some quirk that allows the install to go through. no guidence from the web site -- really really bad!!!!!!

Its very simple to use, there isn't much to using it.

The fact that you have to manually delete my.ini again in local applications is annoying if you messed up with user administration.
