This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I have been evaluating a lot of UML tools, including Poseidon, Visio (yeah, well, it was on my machine anyway), and Argo UML. At least among these, I think MagicDraw is the one my team will be going with. It is fast, accurate, draws reasonably good diagrams, and seems stable. Particularly useful to us will be the ability to have non-technical members load up the diagram in the free community version and view and print what we create in the pro version. I haven't yet figured out how to automatically generate accessor methods for a property or get association lines to reroute around classes, but I was able to recreate a diagram that a certain forked product corrupted in about half the time it took me to create the original. I am particularly intrigued by its ability to save the complete design as XML (XMI). I hope to be able to use CVS/DIFF to merge revisions by different contributors, but we'll see what happens. They would (I'm sure) prefer that we spend several thousand on the server version! Tech support responded to a simple query about a nag dialog in the demo version within the hour via email. Very impressive.
