Publisher's Description
From MXPlay:
MXPlay provides great desktop music experience - it is the only player that renders music in a 3D audiospace, providing a rich, immersive "live" audio experience (especially with headphones). It supports all the popular file types (MP3, AAC, OGG, WMA, FLAC, ALAC) and also allows users to mashup their music with videos from the web (YouTube, myspace, Google). MXPlay currently has plug-ins for Last.fm, MP3tunes and Nintendo WiiMote.

"Definitely not good enough!"
Version: MXPlay 1.1.7 beta
Cons
I'm really beginning to wonder if the CNET Editors who have given 2 of these players excellent reviews are really junior high school students who judge these players by the standard set by the sound quality and capabilities of mp3 players. I write this because my standards for media players seems to be much much higher than theirs. The MXPlayer is, in my opinion, perhaps a nice player if all you want to do is play low quality sound files such as mp3's. But, it fails to play higher quality sound files well at all. When attempting to play higher quality .wav files, as one example, the MXPlayer produced a lot of static and an inferior overall sound.
I mentioned earlier that I was referring to 2 players and the reviews given by the CNET editors. The other one was the so called "Quintessential Player" which one of the CNET reviewers called his "favorite player". I tried the Quintessential Player and all I can say is it definitely is not a Quintessential Player. As I indicated before, I guess one's judgment of these players depends on one's standards and I am accustomed to a much higher standard. I won't go into detail here about my judgment of the Quintessential Player but, suffice it to say, that I found it to simply not be up to the standards that I require in a media player.
If you are satisfied with the sound of an Ipod or any other mp3 player, than perhaps the sound and capabilities of both the MXPlayer and the Quintessential Player will be to your liking. Speaking as one who is not satisfied with the sound quality of mp3 players, the MXPlayer and the Quintessential Players are both definitely not good enough.

Pros
There is a new player out recently - check the site next week. Much improved!
The audio quality is orders of magnitude better than itunes or other renderings of mp3's.
