No tech support!!
Eclectic116- Pros
- When it works, it's a good program.
- Cons
- There is no tech support for MAMP and virtually no tech support for the paid version, MAMP Pro.
- Summary
- BUYER BEWARE!!! There is no tech support for MAMP and virtually no tech support for the paid version, MAMP Pro. I'm having huge issues upgrading from MAMP 1.9 to MAMP Pro 2.1 and the tech support has been exceedingly slow or non-existent. I would get my money back if I could, but there doesn't seem to be any mechanism for doing that either.
VERY nice, but...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

No documentation. You're supposed to know the parts, I guess

Needs clean-up. Duplicate file names scattered over directories.

Developer doesn't include various fixes provided by users on the forum.

Fix the non-functioning widget.

Make usable by non-admins

Addressing 2 and 3 would raise the rating by two stars.
Awesome!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
After fiddling for months with vanilla installs of MySQL, PHP, etc. I just installed MAMP 1.4.1. I haven't actually done anything with it, but it is up and running and looks beautiful. So far it looks like a really great tool. Thanks! (Note, I can't comment on stability, having only just installed it.)
just great

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I downloaded and installed MAMP several months ago. I have come to appreciate what it does. In the past, I could never view php pages that I was testing; now I understand it was because my web server was not running. MAMP makes it so easy to start and stop apache and mySQL; it updated both php and mySQL. If you do any web development or want to play with databases or scripts, give it a try. It's a long download, and it puts the htdocs in a strange place, but it's a great 'all in one' package. Thank you to all the developers who work for free and create such great products. It makes the Mac community a friendly place.
Updated MySQL Version

Invaluable to novices and experts

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I develop web applications (PHP/MySQL) for a living. I was sceptical about MAMP, but I needed a quick/easy PHP/MySQL/Apache installation on my wife's G4 laptop for a "vacation" and gave MAMP a try. It was so easy to install and all configuration files are placed near each other in logical locations. Plus, it is a snap to switch back and forth between PHP4 and PHP5. After vacation, I installed MAMP on my G5 development server, turned off my other Apache/MySQL installations and haven't looked back. I hate to say it, but I would considering paying for this FREE software. shhhhhh.
just too cool

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Finally a way for old-school Mac users to be introduced to some of the unix tools without mucking about with command lines and conf files. This was really easy to set up and use. It's about as user-friendly as it's possible for Apache, mySQL, and PHP to be.
More usable than Apple's own Personal Web Sharing

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Wow. MAMP has made me very happy. Frustrated with problems and limitations within Apple's built in Personal Web Sharing, I was looking for a better, more easy to customize webserver. Enter MAMP. Mac Friendly, easy as heck to set up, use, and uninstall (but I doub't you'll want to do that). Amazing freeware at it's best, and so simple everyone who wants to serve php/mysql, or just plain old http should try it. Works well with Tiger.
Only one to use for a novice!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Trust me - I should know. Just wasted the last few days of my life struggling to get Apache, PHP and MySQL - IN THE LATEST VERSIONS - working on my PowerBook. Like it's not bad enough that I don't really know what I'm doing and I'm really new to all this, the other tools requiring configurations here and extra applications there just had me on the brink of frustration!
This is the only tool to use if you're new and don't want the installation process of AMP to put you off. I mean this is my first review of an application and it is very well deserved!
