  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I've recently been very frustrated with BBEdit because of it's Carbon base... Almost all of the typing I do is in Cocoa apps (for example, Xcode, Mail, Safari, iChat), and I've gotten so used to the Cocoa selection behaviour, cursor movements, how the keyboard and mouse work etc, that I feel very uncomfortable working in a Carbon app. For some time now I've been looking for a Cocoa-based text editor that could replace BBEdit. Jedit X is by no means a perfect text editor, but after using it for only a few minutes I can say it shows a lot of promise. It's evidently not as mature as BBEdit, and it needs a bit of polish (the English localization, for instance, is a bit rough in places). But it's quick enough, has enough features, and seems stable enough. We'll see how it holds up under extended testing. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes...

So I was glad to see it make it's english language debut, but $29 dollars for an advanced but not revolutionary version of Apple 'free' textedit seems a little steep. TexEdit at around $15 would be a more reasonable starting price. If you need the 'extras' this app offers then the price may be nominal. For those not needing excellent asian language support or for those not working with obscure programming languages should try TexEdit or the word processors Mellel/Nisus.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is a fast Cocoa text processor with several neat features which will be much appreciated by any serious user. Notably its Multiple Replace feature allows to save unlimited number of Find/Replace pairs of expressions in named files which can be saved and loaded when needed. Regular expression syntax supported include Ruby, POSIX Basic, POSIX Extended, Emacs, grep, GNU regfgex, Java (Sun java.util.regex), and Perl. Its Multi-File Search is another neat feature. It can even search within RTF files and display accented characters correctly. English version of Help is under preparation. Also the developer is very responsive to feedback.
