Icon Restore

Publisher's Description

From Tim Taylor:

Icon Restore gives you the ability to save the placement of your desktop icons and restore them to their saved placement any time they get moved. Simply place your icons wherever you want them on your desktop, right click My Computer (or any system icon) and left click on 'save icon layout' from the pop up menu. If your icons ever get moved because your computer entered safe mode or you changed the screen resolution, right click My Computer and left click on 'restore icon layout' from the pop up menu. It is the perfect solution for anyone that needs to change the screen resolution frequently.

    "Valuable Windows Software!"

    January 19, 2012  |   By drfugawe100

    Version: Icon Restore 1.0

    Pros

    * Adds another functionality that Windows forgot.
    * Has never failed to work on my Vista 32 bit.
    * It's Free!

    Cons

??? - I've used this for 3 years, and it has yet to fail me.

    Summary

I don't understand those reviewers who insist that somehow the author of this free software owes them something! They don't tell us why, but they do somehow feel that the software deserves only one star because it doesn't work on their 64 bit system! So? Using that logic, they should go through all the perfectly good Apple software and rate it one star because it too doesn't work on their Windows OS - Dumb *****.

Thank you, Mr. Taylor, for a useful tool that has done its job well for a long time.

"It works very well for the OSes it is intended for."

    January 24, 2011  |   By imametsfan

    Version: Icon Restore 1.0

    Pros

There applets out there that have more features, but, if all you want is a basic "keep my icons where I put them" program, then none else will do.

    Cons

It won't work on post-XP Windows OSes.

"Does exactly what it says and nothing more"

    November 3, 2010  |   By mjhurdle

    Version: Icon Restore 1.0

    Pros

This program restores your icons to the last saved record. It is simple and easy to understand.

    Cons

does not work on 64 bit systems

    Summary

If you are expecting this to customize your desktop, then you will be disappointed. but if you use this for what it claims to be useful for, then it will not fail you. It simply restores the icon locations. It will not bring back deleted icons or cure cancer. It simply restores icon location, and it does it well.

"Icon Restorer is ok... if you only have 1 montior"

    January 4, 2010  |   By MLeVell

    Version: Icon Restore 1.0

    Pros

Works ok with 1 monitor. I like the little screenshot it takes...

    Cons

Doesn't work well with more than 1 monitor.

    Summary

Icon Restorer didn?t handle two monitors on my Windows7 laptop at all well. First, it often didn't recognize when I switched from 1 mon to 2. I could tell it didn't because the message at the bottom continued to state "1 monitor".

When I switched from two monitors to a single monitor (disconnecting my laptop to travel), all my icons would disappear off the screen! I could reclaim them by using the Windows Auto-Arrange Icons, and then rearrange them by hand, but? what a pain! Why did I donate money to these guys?? After resetting my icons up, every time if I added an icon in two-monitor mode, the same thing would happen for the new icons. Again, I could use Auto Arrange, rearrange my ENTIRE desktop all over again? but for me the solution was worse than the problem.

I?ve now switched to DesktopOk. It?s got a few flaws as well, and when I switch from 2 mons to 1, the icons are slightly out of place the first time, but reaalligning them is a quick fix and because the icons are at least ON the screen, (!) it is substantially better than Icon Restorer.
