IObit's latest version release brings Malware Fighter to 2.0 and showcases a much more eye-popping design that is more consistent with the modern look and feel of Windows 8.

You'll be greeted with four basic options: Scan, Protect, Update, and Action Center. Since version 1.7, IObit's latest design feels much cleaner and certainly more intuitive for the average user. The original overview graph that the previous version opened with is now tucked away.

Previously included features like cloud scanning and quarantine lists are still present, but reside in a more modernized settings panel to the right, labeled by monochromatic icons. Scanning settings and options exist as on/off switches, similar to those in Windows 8. Make no mistake: Version 2.0 is undoubtedly developed for touch screens.

Though this version is free, that also means it's ad supported. However, IObit has opted to remove all the extraneous social-sharing options, with the exception of a Like button on the bottom right; again, we've never used it but if you're really into it, then the option is there.

We ran a full scan to first test for any bogus claims of "threats" that come from detecting the usual temp files cached by your browser, as well as other common false alerts. IObit came out clean, which was a good sign. Scan speeds were also respectable given the state of our file system. You can also set custom scans and isolate Malware Fighter to look for threats just within your memory processes or select drives.

One minor issue we had with Malware Fighter was that it classifies the absence of Advanced SystemCare and Smart Defrag as "problems." There's no option to clear out these warnings, and choosing to fix them results in an automatic download and installation of IObit's other product offerings.

Compared to its previous version, IObit Version 2.0 is a step in the right direction despite its questionable labeling of ASC and Smart Defrag. But if you're looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight malware scanner, then Malware Fighter does the job.

"Waste of my money and lots of hard work to remove this"

November 08, 2014  |  By rontexas2

 |  Version: IObit Malware Fighter 2.5.0.8

Pros

Well, after the download, I did receive a CD copy in the mail.

Cons

My mistake was to believe that this fought malware. In added so much malware to my system and then would not allow me to install that it took some hard work to re-engineer around their obvious traps and blocks to get my system cleaned and running.

Summary

BEWARE: TO ME A CHINESE PLOT TO RUIN AND TAKE OVER YOUR COMPUTER.

"crapware, unethicalware"

October 30, 2014  |  By ChoiceVoice

 |  Version: IObit Malware Fighter 2.5.0.8

Pros

-pretty looking

Cons

-rated 1/2 star out of 5 in pcmags testing (even spybot rated a 1). (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2419549,00.asp)

quotes from review: "Worst ever scores in both malware blocking and malware removal tests. No protection against malicious downloads. Real-time protection doesn't kick in until malware tries to launch. Behavior-based detection flags both malicious and safe programs. No provision for handling malware that resists installation."

and

"There's absolutely no reason to buy or even try IObit Malware Fighter 2. It doesn't function as an antivirus and doesn't effectively fight malware. In testing, it reported seven thoroughly infested systems as perfectly clean. Avoid it."

Summary

-install a trojan to find a trojan??? why do people use products from this company?

amen. good to see some common sense.

 |  Version: IObit Malware Fighter 2.5.0.8

Pros

Nice user interface. Reminds me of conduit.

Cons

This software is created by scammers. It does not function as an antimalware software. The creators of the software care only about getting your credit card. Stay far away from this software.

Summary

If you still think this software is for you, do a google search. You will find many sites that expose iobit for who they are - scammers.

"CNET should be ashamed of this review"

October 17, 2014  |  By 00sweeney

 |  Version: IObit Malware Fighter 2.5.0.8

Pros

Buys ads that help to pay CNET writers.

Cons

Most people aren't CNET writers.

Also gets abysmal scores on malware detection, the testing of which CNET admitted they didn't do. They just ran scans and looked at speed and false positives. Not accuracy and positive positives.

Fast and pretty is great for race cars and first dates but it's lousy for anti-malware software. Stunning to me that CNET would post a review without doing the most rudimentary testing.

Summary

I can't believe that as recently as a couple of years ago CNET seemed like a legitimate source for software reviews. But it seems they've chosen to trade short-term advertising profits for long-term credibility. I can think of no other reason why you'd review anti-malware software AND give it 4 stars without bothering to test it to see if it actually detects malware attacks. Seriously? Because PCMag did, and it got the absolute worst score they've ever seen. Other sites had similar dismal opinions. Now, perhaps we could quibble about methodology--but not when the extent of your testing is looking for the kind of false positives you admit yourself are common (and therefore obvious for a company to address) and whether or not the scan is quick. Because when it comes to security, we don't care if it's good, we want it quick. What? Please, go ahead and read the review again, and count how many sentences are devoted to the actual functionality of the software, and whether it works or not. Now ask yourself if you want to base your decision on your security software on whether the interface is "eye-popping."

And, finally--take a look at some of the five star reviews. Does it seem like these people know a lot about their computers, or does it seem like they just like the way it looks and that it's easy to use? Now, admittedly all perception is subjective, but when I read the reviews, the more the writer seems to know about computers, the less they like the program. But some of the negative reviews bear repeating--first and foremost, just Google IObit and Spigot. Do you want to use anti-malware software from a company that bundles malware with their product? Really? Why would you do that? Why is that a good thing?

Look, the only reason you're even thinking about downloading this is because it's cheap, or free, and you've read some good reviews--most of which, I will insist are either fake reviews or were written by people who don't have a very educated opinion. Dig a little deeper. Find the reviews written by pros who aren't writing for a hack site like CNET which bundles adware toolbars with all downloads anyway, so their cup of credibility isn't exactly overflowing. Look around. There are PLENTY of reviews of this software by respected sites that will tell you just how bad this software is. The sites that actually TESTED the software.

Man. I could just go on and on. I've had my beefs with CNET before, but to recommend an anti-malware product that they didn't test--it just boggles my mind. CNET, there are some foolish--but otherwise very nice--people who trust you and come to you for advice. The idea that you think a few advertising dollars is more important than the security of their computers is just breathtaking--and not in the cool, Grand Canyon at sunset kind of way--even to a cynic like me.

Finally--Google IObit and ethics, as another reviewer suggested. In case you need a reason other than the fact that it doesn't work not to buy it.

Updated on Oct 17, 2014

Oh, I almost forgot the real reason I came here. To complain about the fact that this program, which is also a module of Advanced SystemCare Pro--which I actually like--installed itself yesterday and started running at startup without my permission.
