Publisher's Description
From Hyperionics Technology:
HyperCam captures the action and sound from any part of Windows desktop and saves it to standard AVI movie files. Captures cursor movements, menus selections, windows popping up, and everything else you see on the screen. Correctly handles color palette changes if recording in 256 color mode. Allow you to pan the recorded area around the screen. Optionally annotates recorded movies with text.
What's new in this version: Version 2.25.01 includes updates for better compatibility with Firefox 4 browser.

"Didn't work"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Probably me because I'm a novice at this stuff
Cons
Couldn't get it to work on my system.

"Good Program - Bad Glitch"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Super easy to manage and modify. It has really powerful options that $50 programs have. You can pick just about any record and export options you want. Spits out in avi but a highly customized avi.
Cons
The worst CON of all- The video doesn't sync up with the audio unless you degrade the screen resolution. I don't want to have to change my bit depth from 32 down to 16 every time I record. There has to be a better way. Sorry HC2, I love you, but I'm gonna keep looking.
Summary
Apparently there is a fix for the audio lag or video speed but after messing with it for two hours I still couldn't get it to work.

"Simple and effective"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
A video capture program that is very easy to use. It has a neat feature where you can choose just one window to record from - you can even set your own dimensions.
Simple, lightweight program that works.Cons
Some of the available options are not explained (or explained well enough), and when choosing a single window to record from, the screen will pan around as you use the mouse. It looks as though you are supposed to be able to lock it in place, however, I haven't been able to get that to work yet myself.
Summary
I like it, it does the job.

"It's okay..."
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Fast easy install. Sorta works. No malware that I've noticed
Cons
Awkward user interface. Terrible sound. Fair video quality.
Summary
64bit W7. No problems with download/install. Make sure to decline the toolbar and homepage offers.
Your options for capture area are 1)specify start and number of pixels in both X and Y axis, or 2)select window, upon which it jumps back to the Hypercam window, so there is a lot of juggling tabs before you can record. All manual; there is no area select by cursor. Cumbersome, antiquated process.
Records only in avi at a choppy default of 10 fps; you can change fps manually, but at 30fps the playback was in 3X fast motion (sound was at normal 1X), so you are screwed there. Playback resolution was as good as original, but a limited color palette gives it a paint-by-numbers trippy dream sequence look.
Sound (streaming, not mic) is horrible, almost muted and with very prominent background hiss.
Okay for tutorials or just playing around, but low quality recording makes it useless for the most part. -
"Best programe"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
video/audio screen capture works very well
Cons
Scheduled recording/stop or time schedule was required
Summary
Very Good

"Sound recording horrible."
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Easy to install.
Does an okay job.Cons
Leaves behind crap that hijacks Facebook when you install it. You have to uninstall hypercam and then go back and uninstall Hyperionics toolbar as well.

Cons

"Used it before, but found something better"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Easy to use, and free.
Cons
Video quality wasn't very good. After I upgraded my computer from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit, It wouldn't record sound with the video
Summary
I am not an expert at this type of thing. I used hypercam to record videos from streaming sources online by selecting the area to record. When the sound wouldn't work after upgrading my computer, I searched online for a solution, and found Debut Video Capture Software. It's free, and has many more features than Hypercam. I had trouble with sound on this program too, but after checking the settings, I clicked on a setting to update the driver, and it worked. The video is really high quality. I can't tell it from the original. I also have the option of recording the file as: avi, wmv, asf, mpg, 3gp, mp4, mov, dv, flv, IPOD, PSP, iphone, xbox360, and playstation 3. I was surprised when I installed it that I also had the option to install three other free programs: Prism Video File Converter, Video Pad Video Editor, and Express Burn Disc burning software (which I havn't tried yet). I may be premature in my judgement, but this program works much better than any of the ones I have found on cnet. Hope this helps!

"Infects PC with useless toolbar crap"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Irrelevant, anything it may have been good at is overshadowed by it's intrusive installation of crap in IE
Cons
Dumps some toolbar in IE, and overwrites default web page to some stupid google-wanna-be site. Not sure what else it may have done on my PC, don't really trust it. Avoid this.
Sad thing is, I actually was going to buy a licensed copy. Except when I found out it also installs some ad-ware junk on my PC I will pass. I encourage you to do the same, this type of intrusive behavior installing software is unacceptable.Summary
Questionable practice of intrusive modifications to my system make this software a must-pass on.

"Perfect except for sync issues and WMP incompatibility"
Version: HyperCam 2.25.01
Pros
Intuitive, does what it promises to do.
Cons
The sound is not in sync. When I set the framerate to 25 fps, the video played in hyper speed. I turned it down again to 10, which I believe was the initial setting, but the video still plays faster than the sound.
I can not select to record sound from my Logitec G35 headphones. Not a big issue though. All I need to do is unplug the headphones when recording. Still it would have been nice to select the G35 output as recording input.
I can't start Windows Media Player when Hyper Cam is running. If I want to record from Media Player, I must ensure that it is running before starting Hyper Cam. The same goes for playing what I have recorded. I can't play the files unless Media Player is running when starting Hyper Cam, or I have to close Hyper Cam and play my recording manually.Summary
Nice free recording software. However there are sync issues with the sound, and it's not 100% compatible with Windows Media Player.
Edit: Another con is that the installer comes with a toolbar and wants to change your default webpage. No big deal, just unselect them, but be weary when installing so you don't get any undesired extras.
