CNET Editors' review
This utility checks the validity of downloaded files by quickly comparing the files to a previously generated checksum. With HkSFV's simple two-pane interface, you can easily browse for files or folders to validate. Using HkSFV is merely a matter of pointing the program to the SFV (simple file verification) file of your download. The SFV lists the checksums of each file in the download. Many program authors use SFV files to help recipients ensure they're getting the correct files. HkSFV computes the checksum for each file exceedingly fast and compares that number to the expected checksum. Simplicity is one of the better features of this application, as all checked files are clearly identified as OK, bad, or not found. HkSFV also works in reverse and quickly generates SFV files for a folder or compressed file. In our tests, HkSFV only once tagged as OK an invalid compressed file. Programmers who need to create SFV files and any level of user who downloads from services that include checksum files will want this freeware application.Publisher's Description
From Big-O Software:
HkSFV uses CRC-32 and MD5 technology to validate the integrity of files that you have downloaded or moved through a potentially unstable medium (burnt to CD, transferred over the Internet/LAN). HkSFV can verify your files in seconds, saving you time and worry. Compatible with Win-SFV and md5sum.

"Excellent, but may need reinstalling"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
Simple and fast creation of MD5 and SFV checksum files.
Cons
Crashes out after being installed for a while, but reinstalling seems to cure the problem.
Summary
Excellent utility, but be prepared to reinstall if necessary.

"Spontaneously quits when checking AVI files under Vista"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
Reasonably simple to operate, Readme covers most options.
Cons
You must select entire contents of a folder to examine; you cannot select a subset.
Summary
Unable to calculate MD5 checksums of original AVI files on my hard drive, let alone compare the ones I just burned to a DVD. Tried several times, but had to give up.
By default it ignores picture and movie files, but since that's what I'm trying to burn to data DVDs, I needed to learn how to change that behaviour before getting anywhere.
Disappointed it wouldn't work for me; surprised after reading all the other positive comments here. -
"Plenty functionality but not what I'm looking for"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
Software got lots of funct, totally easy to get bunch of MD5 from specific folder
Cons
There is no MD5 comparison functionality (where you can compare with md5 txt file received from internet), you still need to compare it manually in notepad
Summary
I like this one, especially the small installation file

"the GUI is what sets this apart"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
Creating & checking checksums couldn't be simpler. You can define what types of files to exclude, a nice touch.
Cons
Inability to accept command line instruction, at least none that I know of.
-
"Good, but confusing"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
You can have it create MD5 sums for you in a batch sort of way. That at least it does very well. If it weren't for that I'd be giving it a lower score.
Cons
It is overly confusing. You need to figure out how to make an MD5 file for the program or whatever you are checking, and then you can finally tell the program to check it. Why not just say "here's the hash, here's the program, check it"? Sheesh.
-
"Crashes too much !"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
HkSFV does what it should do. It checks your files compared to the SFV-file.
Cons
The program hangs too often. At first this happened once and a while, but then, after having the program installed for a couple of months, it hang almost all the time.
-
"Fast and accurate verification"
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
Quick access from desktop, makes a pre-burning check of files very easy.
-
"Very good idea."
Version: HkSFV 2.01
Pros
The program gave me all the information that I required.
Cons
The program was not compatible with something on my computer, however I stress MY, otherwise the program performed as advertised.
Had the program not clashed with another I would still have it on my drive, very handy tool.
