CNET Editors' review
Even if you run reliable antivirus software -- and you do, don't you? -- it's never a bad idea to have a supplemental program that can pick up malware that your regular antivirus application might miss. HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) is an easy-to-use program that can quickly scan for and remove a variety of nasty things that might be lurking on your computer.
HitmanPro 3 has an intuitive interface that makes it easy to get started. If you're ready to plow ahead with the default scan, just click Next. If you'd like to do some customizing, the Settings button will take you to a variety of menus that let you control how the program operates. Users can set HitmanPro 3 to run a scan at startup or on a particular day of the week, and there are also options for configuring a proxy. The Early Warning Scoring feature lets security professionals detect possible threats based on suspicious software behavior. We chose to run HitmanPro3 with the default settings and chose the default scan, as opposed to the quick scan option. The program took a little less than 3 minutes to scan our system, detecting 13 cookies and one piece of adware. We then had the option to delete each of these individually or get rid of all of them with the click of a button. The program keeps a log of potentially harmful items that it finds, making it easy to keep track of what you've been infected with. HitmanPro 3 has no Help file, and seems to assume that users will either take advantage of its basic features and leave it at that, or that they're experts who already know how to use the more-advanced features. Either way, we think that HitmanPro3 is a simple and powerful tool for keeping your system squeaky clean, and we recommend it.
HitmanPro 3 installs and uninstalls without issues.
Editors' note: This is a review of the full version of HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.1.164. The trial version is limited to 30 days.
Publisher's Description
From SurfRight:
HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) is a second opinion scanner, designed to rescue your computer from malware that have infected your computer despite all the security measures you have taken (such as anti virus software, firewalls). Just relying on a single vendor is not sufficient to completely protect you. You do need a second source to make sure you are secure. HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) is designed to work alongside existing security programs without any conflicts. It scans the computer quickly (less than five minutes) and does not slow down the computer (except for the few minutes it is scanning). HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) does not need to be installed. It can be run straight from a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD, local or network attached hard drive.
What's new in this version: Version 3.7.3.193 improved detection of zero-day Urausy ransomware through forensic file clustering and fixed HitmanPro stopped working when it encountered a particular forensic cluster.

"Great Product - BAD INSTALLATION SOFTWARE - NO OPT-OUT"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.7.1.186
Pros
Great software for what it does. Removes malware that numerous other anti-malware products don't even see.
Cons
I've downloaded this product many times without problem. Tonight I downloaded the latest version, and opted out of the first two of three optional software add-ons. BEWARE - the third offering "CONDUIT DJ MIXMASTER TOOLBAR" does not have a "decline" button. I made the mistake of assuming it was advertising. WRONG! It changed the settings on my browsers and it took about an hour to fix everything and remove the software from my computer. This has never happened before with HitmanPro3 from CNET. Someone dropped the ball when coding the installation program and forgot to include the third and final "decline" button.
I would have given this program 5-stars - if it didn't screw me up by installing add-on software that I didn't want.Summary
Great program -- but do not install if "Conduit DJMixmaster Toolbar" does not provide you with a "decline" button when you are going through the 6-step install process. Wait until HitmanPro3 fixes this issue.

"What good is it if your other computer is a Mac?????"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.7.0.182
Pros
yeah cool, sounds really great, BUT...
Cons
...my other(the non-infected computer) is a Mac! NOOOOOOOwhere can I find anything relating to this situation. Is this ONLY for folks who have a PC and another PC around? What the hell man. Why can't it just be ready to go from the USB and not need to be opened and installed on a separate computer THEN copied to the USB?
Not gonna ding it totally, but I'll never know if I can't use it.Summary
Come on, man. Really disappointed that the holy grail, the one silver bullet to rid a sic PC of ransomware needs another PC. Thats like requiring a tow truck to be the exact same make as the car thats broken down. ***.

"Hitman Pro - The Best Second Opinion Scanner"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.2.171
Pros
Had 5 antivirus engines scanning - Bit Defender, Dr Web, Icarus, G-Data, Emsisoft.
Cons
After the 30 day free trial is up, you have to pay for removal of any malware it finds. Hint - don't start the 30 day trial until it actually finds stuff that needs removing.
Summary
Run Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes for a clean machine.

"It is the best"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.2.174
Pros
My computer was on its way to the computer geek. It was very infected and was not running worth a darn. I ran malwarebytes, superantispyware, and AVG and nothing helped. I read about Hitman Pro and tried it. My computer was clean of 157 items, all serious. I am not talking cookies here but malware and viruses. My computer is good to go now. I purchased Hitman and it runs a scan daily. It saved my butt.
Cons
Does not run as active. Must run scans or schedule scans. Still love it.
Summary
Buy it. It is the best out there and works. The others cannot compare.

"NO LONGER FREE TRIAL"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.2.171
Pros
I d/l it a month ago and ran it on a computer and it found root kit, then want me to buy it, but found an option to generate a 1 TIME USE KEYCODE, which is okay and it worked. I download it a month later for another PC at my dads house, and NO Option for free anything. They just want you to buy it , and this should be reclassified as "CRIPPLE-WARE" Will probably buy it though...
Cons
CRIPPLE-WARE - it detects for free but want 19.95 to remove.
Summary
It found stuff that even Kaperstkey boot disk could not find. The only one that found Java.EXE infections and successfully removed them. They should allow the free trial. I would have no confidence in the product unless I could try it and see it works. I did and i will, but the next guy will just have to risk it.
I thought I would try to D/L it from Cnet to see if it was still free trial, as i d/l direct from hitmanpro. Cnet, even tho I selected "direct download" try to shovel the spyware funmoods tooblar and BuzzDock in with the installation. Like many others, I will not be coming back to C-net because they promote bloatware and spyware on your system. Funmoods toobar is EVIL and BuzzDock tracks when you go to the bathroom!!!!! SHAME ON YOU C-NET

"additional review"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.1.164
Pros
Now that I know what cnet & HitmanPro did - there are no Pros.
Cons
On August 12, 2012, this is the virus that Avast cleaned up: Virus: Win32:InstallCore-AM[PUP]
It was stored in: cnet2_HitmanPro36_exe.exeSummary
This is not my first experience with cnet's having unwanted stuff attached to a download, but it is my last. If you want a software, go directly to the developer's Web site and download it. Stay away from software downloaded from cnet.com.

"caution advised"
Version: HitmanPro 3 (32-bit) 3.6.1.163
Pros
scans quickly
Cons
After scanning (in my case, there were 70 cookies that showed on the log), *Next* appears below the window. The obvious step is to click *Next*, which I did. *Next* deletes everything in the log, which is NOT what I wanted. Beware.
Summary
Works fine (opt out of additional software in the beginning) but, if you want to keep what shows in the log, do not click *Next*.

Pros
It's very simple to use and did the job I needed it to!
Cons
In my experience, there were no cons.
Summary
After downloading endless programs to deal with ZeroAccess that McAfee kept detecting but failing to deal with, I reached this one in the list and it dealt with it so quickly. Very happy. This is one for keeps!
