CNET Editors' review
Boring tabs and an altogether clutter interface are what you'll be greeted with when you use this backup tool. After we got our hands on it, we found it second best to other cheaper, and even a few free, backup programs.
GRBackPro uses tabs to organize its features. But within each tab, we found numerous buttons that lacked any flow. It was hard to know what to do first or where to go next. We tried to create a new job, which we were able to name, and select a destination folder. Once we clicked the Backup button, the program quickly and successfully backed up our files, but the effort to get to this point didn't seem worth it. A schedule feature is included, but we were unable to add or edit events because the buttons to do so were deactivated in the trial version. Advanced settings give you the option of skipping any empty files during the backup, including hidden files, and password-protecting ZIP files. ZIP file compression is included, but the ZIP file level and temp path settings were confusing.
The program includes a Help menu, but that doesn't address GRBackPro's design flaws. It would take a complete design overhaul to fix this program's problems, and it certainly isn't worth the cost in its current form. We recommend that you save yourself the trouble and money, and check out some of the other backup programs on the market.
Publisher's Description
From GRSoftware:
GRBackPro is a Windows data backup program that helps protect you from some event. You can define multiple backup sessions: back up a whole disk, a single folder or just a few files. An integrated scheduler will let you start your backup automatically start without intervention, even if your PC is in stand-by, and you can set conditions such as paths available, no user input and CPU loading to fine tune your backup process. GRBackPro supports networks, USB drives, hard drives, DVD-RW, CD-RW for backup. You can install it as a Windows Service to have your backups start even if no users are logged in. It supports Windows Volume Shadow Copy on 32bit systems in order to be able to backup open and locked files. GRBackPro let you handle long path names up to 1024 characters. Unicode file names are supported even inside the zip archives. You can span multiple destination disks so that you can easily build a multi disk backup set. Split mode to easily burn DVDs after the backup has been completed. There is a History mode to keep multiple backup sets. Integrated restore facility to easily restore your files or whole backups and also keep two or more PCs synchronized. You can execute one or more tasks before and/or after the backup, such as start/stop/restart services close an application, start a program, pause the backup, open a message box, end a process or send an email which lets you send the backup log report if any error has been found in the backup. Registry backup both locally (for an easy manual restore) or on the destination disk. Automatic software update facility allows you to easily update.
What's new in this version: Version 7.5.50 has fixed the PC woke up even if no events had the 'wake-up' option enabled.

"Outstanding program - easy to use and very complete"
Version: GRBackPro 7.3.15
Pros
Backups can be scheduled, empty (and/or any specified folders) can be skipped, includes registry backup. Has wizard mode to guide user easily. Zip Compression level can be adjusted. Excellent email tech support, frequent updates. Simple but powerful.
Cons
Interface can appear complex, but wizard mode makes it easy. Needs to have both "basic user" and "advanced user" modes.
Summary
GrBackPro doesn't try to look like every other program, just does what a good backup should, which is to back up everything on your drive(s). This program has so many options that it's almost essential for a new user to use the Wizard mode! The scheduler will do multiple backups and deal with timing conflicts without fuss. There is a 30 day free trial mode, with most features available (some limitations, e.g. number of jobs permitted). The scheduler can be completely disabled with one button, in which case all other buttons are faded out to make it obvious that it's not running. All in all, a most satisfactory program with all the options and features one could look for in a backup program.

"A REALLY good backup program - but not for dummies."
Version: GRBackPro 7.1.1
Pros
The speed of this backup program is amazing - far faster than file copying or any other backup program I've used. You truly can pick and choose what you want to backup and to where - in zipped (compressed) or actual copy format.
Cons
In order to skip a file or folder, one must type the file/folder name. There is no tree available to check off the items you want to skip. Given the other "pros" of the program, I consider this to be a minor "con".
Summary
This is NOT a program for computer dummies or impatient users. However, if you are serious about accurate (and fast) backups, this program is great. Yes, as the CNET editors' review suggests, there are a lot of options to consider in setting up the first sessions. However, these options give the user a LOT of flexibility. - - Most importantly, you can do incremental backups (which will copy over top of changed files AND will copy all new files), or better yet, you can do differential backups using the "Archive bit logic". I did a differential backup in a separate destination folder, and I was able to keep the older versions of my files as well as the newer versions.
