Editors' Review

+

Freemake Video Converter combines video editing and conversion into one well-built application. It features an attractive design, a large amount of supported file types, and a modest video editing tool that is engaging and enjoyable. You will not find many faults with this application.

Pros

Friendly, appealing interface: Nothing about this program is complicated or unattractive. Large banner buttons and step-by-step guidance make using Freemake Video Converter a breeze. We found that the contrasting color scheme was beneficial for locating key objects.

Excellent conversion: We converted a wide selection of files and observed that the average video conversion only took approximately 40 seconds to one minute. Freemake Video Converter supports almost every media file type imaginable and features conversion settings designed for specific devices.

Great tools: The built-in video editor is comparable to many other applications, and the slideshow feature is one of the best we've ever used. The ability to merge files before conversion is great and works wonderfully.

Cons

Slow ripping: We used the DVD ripping tool on Freemake and were a tad unsatisfied that it took over 30 minutes to rip an hour-long segment. This was a standard definition file, so ripping a larger, more defined DVD will likely take a considerable amount of time.

Bottom Line

Freemake Video Converter is one of the best applications we have encountered. It will suit nearly all of your needs, but we think adding a few more options would make it perfect. Ideally, we would like to see it include a free subtitle editor similar to that of Subtitle Edit. Nevertheless, this application is fully loaded, and we suggest you download Freemake Video Converter because it is the best on the market.

"Video to DVD conversion takes over 2 hours, not 40 secs"

January 15, 2015  |  By johntamrhein

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5.4

Pros

It'll convert videos to a "Saved and Converted" file location, unlike other converters.
This is a plus, since once you have awaited the long, time-consuming, conversion process, you can create, or burn DVD's, from the "Saved" location, without having to convert the Video all over again, if you want to burn another DVD.

Cons

Video to DVD conversion takes over 2 hours to convert a 2-hour video.
That equals a 1:1 video conversion rate.
It does not take 40 seconds to one minute as noted by the Editor rating.
It is very slow.
I give it 2 1/2 stars, because it is as slow as the others I've tried.

"ease of use"

December 31, 2014

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5.4

Pros

easy to use

Cons

none for what i need

Summary

wanted a converter/burner whereby I could just file/open a video and press'Go', no messing.. this software is great for that. I load vid and select 'To DVD' and 45 mins later, filmed burned to disc.. Don't know what it is like for the more video/audio savvy but soooo easy to use, I love it, so much so, that I'm going to donate as it is freeware..

"Danger... inludes spyware or malware"

December 13, 2014  |  By equalizer2010

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5.4

Pros

With the spyware...none.

Cons

The program itself works nicely, but it includes a spyware or malware very diffcult to detect and remove called Baidu Antivirus; even Norton Internet Security couldn't handle it... it is a nightmare. You have been warned.

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5.4

Pros

Fast, easy to use.

Cons

Needs notification if there is an update to the program.

Sometime, there is a delay in the audio caused by outdated software.

Summary

I use this all the time to extract videos.

I rarely have problems.

I highly recommend.

"Very easy to use, supports all formats"

November 09, 2014  |  By Kallamy

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5.3

Pros

Very easy to use, supports all formats, text menu in free version looks very professional, watermark in free version is very unobtrusive.

Cons

May not be the fastest available.

Summary

I've tried several and like this one the best. It's very easy to opt out of the junkware during installation and as far as I can tell, none was installed.

"Don't Install"

October 17, 2014  |  By alanspam

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5

Pros

Used to be good

Cons

What was a decent converter is now loaded with spyware which even if you take care to de-select all the options in a custom installation, continues to screw your computer

Summary

Norton blocked multiple malware attacks on my computer following installation and I even had problems with Internet Explorer following a system restore. I would avoid this at all costs

"Great all around free converter"

October 15, 2014  |  By techman93

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5

Pros

-Simple interface.
-Very easy to use.
-Can convert a lot of video and audio formats.

Cons

-No drag and drop.
-Would have liked being able to crop video isn't available in this.
-Crappy adware attempt on install. (Most AV/Antimalare programs will detect this)

Summary

This is a decent free video converter. If they allowed drag and drop this would be way faster to use than having to select each file. I hope they do this in the future.

"AVG Detected AdLoad OpenCandy during custom install"

October 13, 2014

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.5

Pros

Haven't tried the program yet. Maybe I'll increase the rating after I've used it a while.

Cons

Attempted to install malware/adware.

Summary

AVG seems to have blocked and removed the offensive included software. I'll run a full system check now and see if anything comes of it. I know it's free, but they package adware into the installer and then ask you for a donation immediately when the install completes. Not a good way to encourage a donation.
