Editors' Review

+

Freemake Video Converter combines video editing and conversion into one well-built application. It features an attractive design, a large amount of supported file types, and a modest video editing tool that is engaging and enjoyable. You will not find many faults with this application.

Pros

Friendly, appealing interface: Nothing about this program is complicated or unattractive. Large banner buttons and step-by-step guidance make using Freemake Video Converter a breeze. We found that the contrasting color scheme was beneficial for locating key objects.

Excellent conversion: We converted a wide selection of files and observed that the average video conversion only took approximately 40 seconds to one minute. Freemake Video Converter supports almost every media file type imaginable and features conversion settings designed for specific devices.

Great tools: The built-in video editor is comparable to many other applications, and the slideshow feature is one of the best we've ever used. The ability to merge files before conversion is great and works wonderfully.

Cons

Slow ripping: We used the DVD ripping tool on Freemake and were a tad unsatisfied that it took over 30 minutes to rip an hour-long segment. This was a standard definition file, so ripping a larger, more defined DVD will likely take a considerable amount of time.

Bottom Line

Freemake Video Converter is one of the best applications we have encountered. It will suit nearly all of your needs, but we think adding a few more options would make it perfect. Ideally, we would like to see it include a free subtitle editor similar to that of Subtitle Edit. Nevertheless, this application is fully loaded, and we suggest you download Freemake Video Converter because it is the best on the market.

"Simple and Efficient Video Conversion Tool"

November 27, 2016  |  By billone792

2016-11-27 04:40:34  |  By billone792

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.9.17

Pros

This product is simple and practical to use.

Cons

Short contextual menu options.

Summary

Freemake Video Converter is a very easy to use video software especially in video edition despite its efficiency in conversion.
Since the time I use it this application it failed once or twice.
To join several videos it lacks a practical way to move and order in the list the different video files selected.
This product is very practical and useful for people looking for simplicity.

"It did what I wanted but it added ads to my video"

November 23, 2016  |  By howardferns

2016-11-23 12:17:17  |  By howardferns

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.9.17

Pros

I installed it to rotate a video I had been sent that was recorded sideways on a phone. When you have loaded the video you can play it on the program and see the effect of the edit you are doing. The software successfully did what I wanted.

Cons

You have to avoid nagware during install. The UI has an upgrade button in the centre. It took me a while to find how to save my rotated video - you must selct a conversion (it can be the same format it already is) and then save it. You have a "choice" of paying to upgrade or having a screen "Sponsored by Freemake.com" added at the beginning and end of your video. The result is put in your Videos folder (Win 8.1). There is more nagware when you close the program.

Summary

As I only had a one-off job to do, I have now very happy to uninstalled the freeware.

Updated on Nov 23, 2016

UPDATE: I have just realised that my original video before using this software to rotate it 90 degrees is 51 seconds long, while the edit is only 21 seconds long, including the crappy ads at the start and finish. I am very cross about this. Good job I still have the original.

"Installs but can't find vids"

August 05, 2016  |  By skaizun

2016-08-05 10:53:14  |  By skaizun

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.9.17

Pros

Absolutely none

Cons

CPU hog; adds Chromium (presumably, a scaled-down version of Chrome) without permission; changes other browsers' "home" URL without permission; can't find vid I want to download

Summary

The program had a button for me to paste an URL, so, I copy-pasted the page I was at (a children's website with Flash vidz), and it said something to the effect, "run the vid so I can find it." I did. It didn't. So, I went to YouTube, and it had the same problem. I tried it with IE and Firefox and even its installed-without-permission Chromium, which wouldn't run Flash vidz, and has no way to add the plug-in, that I can tell. So, "10,000 sites" including YouTube, but, it was 0-for-2 for me, so I removed it from my computer, along with the useless Chromium. I hope it didn't make other changes to my browser or computer without my permission.

"Used to be great"

August 04, 2016  |  By pamalove

2016-08-04 09:27:24  |  By pamalove

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.1.9.17

Pros

Simple interface, lots of options

Cons

Video conversions fail partially through but show false completion, audio and video misaligned

Summary

I've used Freemake for years. In the past 6 months I've had loads of problems with videos failing before completion for no apparent reason but still showing as completed (I have to open each video file and preview it to be sure I've actually gotten the whole thing), and all videos not aligning audio and video properly. I don't know what they've changed but it's pretty annoying to wait an hour per movie to find that it didn't work.
