Free Video Dub does exactly what it says. I have used it through several versions and found it extremely useful.
Cons
I just downloaded the newest version (2.0.2)which has a sleeker interface, but is VERY disappointing. The bracket indicating the place where you would like to cut is GONE!! So now you're guessing each time you are cutting.
Much worse is the new feature of jumping ahead by several frames. In this version here at cnet, you can still forward or rewind one frame at a time to cut out only the commercial. In the new version, you cannot be so precise anymore.Summary
Great program if you stick with this version. Do not upgrade until DVDVideoSoft has ironed out the kinks in the newer version.

Simple program. Just select the portion of the video you want delete and delete. It will save a copy of the video and add the word "cut" to the original file name.
Cons
I have not found any functional problems.
Summary
I have had about 14 short 1-4 minute videos of Christmas and New years fireworks. I was able to cut all the uneventful parts of the video and joined then together to make great fireworks display video that rocks. Awesome program!

Summary
I like it because it does exactly what I wanted. It shortens video that I have. I can cut out sections and it has a precision that I did not expect, but love. It is user friendly. I figured out how to use it without needing any directions.

Since I upgraded to Windows 7 (64 Bit), this program does wonders. You can take out commercials from any of your favorite programs, delete unwanted scenes, and more.
Cons
Doesn't work with Windows Media Center.
Summary
If you have Win TV installed on your machine, your programs can be edited with no problem.

I have used this in the past to edit MPEG 4 files, and it worked fine at that time.
Cons
Despite indicating it can edit MP4 files, I get the error "The video codec is not supported", and then directs me to download a new program that has a bunch of stuff (Free Video Studio) that I don't need. They want me to install 150MB of random junk
Summary
This program used to be great. It seem they are trying some sly, sneaky ways to force their latest program down your throat, a la Microshaft. I will have to try and find the old version, instead of the now crippled version.

Summary
Tried this on mpg recordings made with avermedia mediacenter. The resulting video had no audio. This program won't uninstall on windows7. Now using smart cutter for dv and dvb instead. The interface is more confusing but at least it works and it doesn't even use an installer, just an executable file.

none, it didnt work then point blank refused to uninstall... I had to use IOBIT advanced system care to force an uninstall then scan to remove everything it left behing EVERYWHERE. BEWARE !

@ VirtualVivien..I too couldnt uninstall this damned program just now. Use the IObit Advanced System Care to Force it to Uninstall. Also do a deep scan of hard drive and registry to remove everything. I'm now Video Dub CLEAN !! Hope this helps.

First wouldn't install, saying 'file corrupted'. Then before I opened a video it said to delete something from the video! Then wouldn't work, with MP4 (which it should support) or VOB files, saying 'format not supported'. Now won't uninstall..
Summary
One problem after another - a real pain. And it won't even go away. I refuse to register on their website just to get help uninstalling, so if anyone can tell me how to get rid of it I would be grateful.

1) Says it supports MP4 format. I tried to load one into it and it said the codec is not supported.
2) After it fails to do what it said it could, it hits me with an ad for software that supposedly can do what it couldn't.Summary
