"An excellent, easy to use tool."

"Not Free! Limited Functions without upgrading for a Fee"
Version: Free Hex Editor Neo 4.51.02
Pros
Sleek install, would have had a better opportunity to see the features if they were enabled in this version.
Cons
Waste of time and bandwidth downloading this software that is majorly limited in its functions.
Summary
Buy the upgrade or get a hex editor that is free and fully functional. The editors of this site should list this as Free to Try.

"Fast and looks very useful, but has a bug"
Version: Free Hex Editor Neo 4.51.02
Pros
It seems a very useful hex editor, but when I tried to edit data at the end of a file larger than 2GB it saved the data elsewhere in the file instead of at the end. Maybe it is unable to address files larger than 32-bits? On the other hand it opened and the file very quickly and I was able to find the data where it had been written and restore what should have been there.
Cons
If saving data over 2GB is a bug, it needs to be fixed. If it is a known limitation it needs to be prevented. I hope the publishers does fix it because I would like to experiment more with this program.

"Very limited!"
Version: Free Hex Editor Neo 4.41.01
Pros
Looks very capable.
Cons
NOT FREE WITHOUT LIMITATIONS! Replace All is a "14 day trial" option. Since this is the only task I wanted to accomplish when I downloaded this, it's about to be uninstalled.
CNet is going to be notified of this inaccurate listing.

"Bait and switch"
Version: Free Hex Editor Neo 4.41
Pros
The link from this page downloads version 4.21, not 4.33 (yes, that a "pro"!) It looked very nice, but...
Cons
Immediately after installation, you are told there is an "update" available. While v 4.21 is free, the update (v4.33) is a trial version only. 4.33 uninstalled nicely, but as I was about to re-install v 4.21 I figured I won't bother with a company who plays bait & switch games.
