This batch file renamer proves that free software doesn't necessarily have to cut corners. The interface is straightforward; every tool you'll need is accessible directly from the main menu. This program gives you detailed options for renaming files, letting you specify prefix, suffix, unique parameters, and extension. You also can find and replace any text string. Another useful feature is the ability to cut filenames. For better handling of your MP3 collection, File Renamer Basic can create filenames based on any combination of ID3 tags extracted from a file. We appreciated the ability to preview changes before they were made, and finding files by name or type was no problem thanks to a handy filtering tool. Because this free utility takes such a comprehensive approach to a simple concept, we have no problem recommending it to anyone who needs this type of functionality.Publisher's description
From Sherrod Computers :File Renamer Basic is a powerful and yet easy to use program that allows the user to rename files, folders, and MP3 files with ease. It has a filename filter so you can easily narrow down your search to only a specifc type of file or filename to work with. You can also remove x number of characters starting from x character and even find and replace text. In addition to its renaming capabilities, it also has a built-in ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag editor.

"Destroyed File Type Recognition"
Pros: Does what it says it will do. Renames your files.
Cons: Changes the file extension by default, but even if you opt to keep the file extention name it still only shows up as a blank file when you attempt to open it on another pc.
Summary: For example, i renamed a large amount of photos, then copied them to a digital device for display. Once i copied them to the digital device's folder, it showed up as a blank file and when i attempted to open the photo the system asked which program ... read more >>

Version: File Renamer Basic 5.6.2
"Running program caused serious problems on my computer."
Pros: None. Never got to use it as program caused problems on my Win Vista desktop as soon as I started the program after installing it. I am glad this program works for others but it didn't for me.
Cons: All kinds of negative things started happening after running program. It got so bad that my computer was grinding to a halt such that I uninstalled the program. I ran CCleaner and jv16PowerTools and I think that my computer is back to normal.
Summary: It looks like the problems this program has are unique to only a few computers. I was hesitant when I read the one negative report about this software. After downloading program and before installing it I scanned it with three different malware sc... read more >>
