  - It looks great, shiny and "modern" looking interface - Simple, easy to add new data

  Cons

  - Lacks some of the extremely detailed features of programs such as Legacy.

  Summary

  Family Tree Genius did what I wanted, which was to easily create an accurate, extremely well presented family tree. The way relationships between family members are managed is uncomplicated - I didn't get too bogged down. However, when I needed to add specialist information, there was normally a way to include it. Recommended for novices and intermediate users, who just want to create a professional looking family tree.

  Best interface of a family tree maker Good support (had a problem running it on xp that they fixed) Quite fast even on my very large family tree

  Research section only adds basic information Seems aimed at novices

  Summary

  A very good program for those new to genealogy, there are more complicated programs out there for those familiar with GEDCOM etc.

  Expensive. Low quality display on Windows XP. Data grid incomplete. Problems running on Windows 7.

  Summary

  Family Tree Genius is heavily based on a free (as in cost) open source project. There are a significant number of bugs and stability issues which make the program frustrating to use. In summary if you are willing to spend $30 you could purchase a product with far more extensive features and greater compatibility with other genealogy applications.
