CNET Editors' review
Sorely lacking in features, Easy PDF to Text Converter is disappointing even by freeware standards. The problems start with its interface, which requires you to click a button named Open to browse to the file you want to convert. From there, you can select more than one input file at a time, but all must be in the same folder. Also, you have to select the input files and destinations at one go. If you cancel in the middle, you have to start over. Conversion itself is fast, though many users will dislike how the program creates a separate text file for each page of the PDF rather than uniting all in a single file. Since the converter can't handle protected PDFs, many will find it just as easy to copy and paste text from Acrobat Explorer. The only real advantage of Easy PDF to Text Converter main is batch processing, limited though that feature is.Publisher's Description
From NeoRen Soft:
Easy PDF to Text Converter can export the text contents from a PDF document into a text document, preserving the layout. It is a standalone program and does not require Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or Acrobat Reader. It also can convert batches of files at high speed and with good quality.

"Great with very large files, error prone"
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
Can work with huge files, as it writes out one file per page, other converters crashed aroung the 7000-10,000 page.
Cons
Errors! Street becomes Stret, 25,000 becomes 250, etc...
Summary
Does not work with repeating characters. Hopefully there will be a fix out real soon!

"Excellent for Text Extracts"
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
Ever extracted a few 000 OCR output pages? Correcting a 2000 page document will drive you crazy if you have a single document. Single page outputs helps systematic corrections and keeping track of what you have done And combine .txt files later.
Cons
None - simple - neat!
Summary
I correct and validate text in PDFs that have been OCR ed - And there are 000s and 000s pages!

"Good enough for my needs"
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
- free, simple to install and quick
Cons
- generates 1 .txt fille per page in each .pdf
- would be nice to have command line interfaceSummary
I have straight forward .pdf files to begin with, no image etc. It does exactly what it claims and free. What's more can I expect? It is a keeper for me.

"didn't recognize my pdf file"
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
Free, small
Cons
Rejected my PDF file saying it was "encrypted". It isn't. (It's in format PDF 1.5.) Other viewers have no problem with it -- Foxit or Evince. Even if it were encrypted, which it's not, this program claims to support encrypted files.
Summary
For PDF files it accepts, it might work fine. When it doesn't, you're out of luck, apparently.

"Avoid!! Select plus copy plus paste is more reliable."
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
Will extract the text from a PDF - and does it as quickly as when you manually select the required text in Adobe Reader v8.1, then copy and paste.
Cons
Frequently strips spacesfromwordsand thus links them together.
Occasionally drops characters.
Each page in the pdf is saved as a separate .txt file.
The resulting text needs quite a bit of work to be useful.Summary
Bottom line is that for an 'openable' document you might just as well open it in Adobe reader - I have version 8.1 - and use the 'select text' tool to select all text, right click, and either 'copy' or 'copy with formatting', then paste into your favourite wordprocessing application.
I pasted into Notepad, and found that all letters and all spaces were there, that all sentences were without linebreaks where they had been in the original, and that everything was in one .txt document.
The bottom line is that the people who offer this utility do a wide range of useful converters, and have choosen the one which can easily be replicated without their software as a freeware taster, but unfortunately their free offering does a worse job then not using their offering. That's a pity, and this software is best avoided. -
"not worth the effort"
Version: Easy PDF to Text Converter 2.0
Pros
It converted my pdfs.
Cons
It outputted everything in seperate files. 230 page pdf resulted in 230 text files. Formatting etc isn't important to me. I use the text file on my pda so as long as it's readable I'm fine, but opening up 230 individual files is carzy. you're better off download adobe reader 8 which will save to text
