If your hard drive is bloated with duplicate files, this program offers a compelling cleanup solution. You can prioritize accuracy or speed in your hunt for cluttering clones, comparing files byte by byte or just by their filenames. Folder-location and file-size parameters help you focus your search. You also can optimize your scans by searching only for certain types of files, such as MP3s or JPEGs. After finding duplicates, you can quickly move, rename, or delete them. The sophisticated marking system lets you select files by date, size, and several other criteria. You also can save the parameters of your scan for later use. We like the quick image-preview feature, which allows you to actually see what you're deleting without having to open another program. The trial version will only let you remove a certain number of files per session, but this isn't a huge downside. Most users likely will find Duplicate Finder quite useful for keeping their hard drives lean.Publisher's description

"This is a wonderful product."
Pros: I had a library of over 5,000 songs with a lot of duplicates. I had been manually weeding them out for a week when I found this program. Now my library is only 3,000 with no duplicates. It was well worth the $26 to save hours of keyboard time.
Cons: The marking system could be more intuitive to select longer or shorter filenames for the times when you have given personalized names to photos instead of the generic filenames.
Summary: This program saved me days spent deleting a ton of duplicate files when I upgraded to Windows 7. I had backed up all my personal files onto a portable hard drive where my backup was also stored, bad mistake. Duplicate Finder saved the day.

"D-F works reliably every time to neatly save space"
Pros: You don't have to read lots of instructions to get what you want.
Cons: Just can't think of anything that jumps out on me. it would be magic if it could offer to keep the duplicates that you had given meaningful names to (such as "John's New Car"), and highlighted the duplicate (such as "DSC2482") for deletion.

"Very fast file comparison in Vista. Easy to use."
Pros: I like the flexibility of the byte to byte file comparison, which allows files of any type to be compared.
Cons: None so far.
