This full-blown antivirus program scans files on demand and protects your PC every time you open a file or receive a letter. You can specify which folders or types of files to check as well as actions to perform on infected objects. The real-time protection intercepts every unauthorized attempt to access files and hard-drive system areas and checks any object trying to penetrate the local file system. The program checks e-mail messages before the mail client processes them.We found that the interface was not very convenient for picking several folders for scanning. Also, you have to use command-line parameters to schedule automatic runs. But the small amount of memory consumed and this program's reasonable price give it a boost.
Publisher's description
From AdvancedForce InfoSecurity Solutions :Dr. Web Anti-Virus for Workstations provides powerful and reliable antivirus protection for your workstation. With default settings, Dr. Web automatically scrutinizes all possible ways of viral intrusion, and blocks and reports any malicious behavior. The user may entrust Dr. Web with automatically eliminating all detected viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, thus keeping the PC in the cleanest state. It intercepts every attempt to access files and hard-drive system areas and performs real-time checks of any object trying to penetrate the local file system. Upon detecting a virus or any other malicious program, Dr. Web blocks access to the file, so that no harmful activity occurs until the user has a chance to choose an appropriate action, or Dr. Web takes care of it. Due to the deep integration of this on-access antivirus technology into the operating system, the real-time monitoring cannot be terminated by any other application, which distinguishes Dr. Web from many other antiviruses.
Version 4.31a added 244 new virus records.

Version: Dr. Web Anti-Virus for Workstations 4.31a
Pros: The only AV lighter on resources that I have tried is F-Prot which isnt that good. The false positive issue that some folks have legitimately had a problem with in the past have been dramatically improved. The only better AV I have used is Kaspersky, which uses more memory and cost about twice the price. This program is ugly and looks like it was coded in 1995 but it gets the job done. It also updates it's Virus database every hour.
Cons: I honestly cant think of many worth mentioning. I would say this is one of the top three Antivirus programs.

Version: Dr. Web Anti-Virus for Workstations 4.31a
Pros: Dr Web turned out to be somewhat effective. It found many objects that needed to be removed from my computer and eliminated them quickly and effeciently.
Cons: The program proved to be less effective than some of the other anti-virus programs that I've gotten from download.com so after the trial period ended, I uninstalled the program. Actually, I tried to uninstall the program but it said, "some items from Dr. Web could not be uninstalled by this program. Please go back and uninstall them manually!" Now it's up to me to track down every little file they've hidden on my computer? Um... does that seem stupid to anyone else?

Version: Dr. Web Anti-Virus for Workstations 4.31a
"works great low cpu usage too!"
Summary: Great anti virus. Uses practically no system resources, updates itself and keeps everything bad out on the web and in your mail.

Version: Dr. Web Anti-Virus for Workstations 4.31a
Summary: Although Dr.Web comes in second in virus detection (NOD32 is 1st), it generates too many false alarms. It detected a virus that Trend Micro, Norton, AntiVir, Kaspersky and F-Prot seemed to have missed. For a good antivirus, I recommend Kaspersky.
