All your files automatically get saved in a proprietary format. To save an 80 page document as a pdf it makes 80 individual pdf documents. It's got a clunky interface, way more complex than it needs to be. For the same functionality try paper port, but you'll still have a problem with the proprietary format unless you also have Adobe PDF writer installed. I would be careful about using any software that is saving your documents in a file format that is not very standard. What happens in 5 years when the software maker quits supporting their old versions, or is out of business and the software isn't compatible with the software you're using?

After researching many tools with a wide range of features and costs, we selected this full featured yet reasonably priced product. We thought our requirements would be too complicated, but this tool is customizable and the programmers seem to have anticipated every one of our needs. We are still relatively new users, so the most important feature has been the great user support. Quick email responses as well as remote control help that goes well beyond the call of duty. Would highly recommend this product and company.

The #1 reason I went with D2M after much research is that it does not 'hide' your data in a proprietary format. Also, although there are a lot of online doc storage solutions, we don't feel that online doc storage is guaranteed adequate in all possible circumstances. So we wanted local storage. Price, support, all that was adequate for me to give it a try.
The program has proven to be elegant. How can they know exactly what we need? I guess electronic document storage is not as individualized as I thought, or else this product is mature enough that all the bases are covered. Or maybe all those plus genius programming, I don't know. It is worth the time to get to know it through the free trial.
You can use almost any database you want. The latest version saves the actual documents outside the database, which means if you want MySQL, you can use the SQLExpress free version, since the indexes will never pass the max DB size. We like all the multiple ways to get docs in the system, full control on how you want things set up, GOOD default setups so you can go right out of the box, great support.
The program just works really well. I thought we'd have a hard time changing our habits from paper files to electronic, but even the oldest dinosaur in the office is using D2M with pleasure.
The user manual is less than complete. It doesn't do justice to the program capabilities, for sure. They'd save a lot of support time, I guess, if they'd just tape those phone questions and add them to the manual.
Licensing is okay, but we have more computers than people, and it doesn't seem fair to have to buy a license for a machine that may use it once every 3 months (but that we need when we need it). Also, there are 'full' licenses and very limited user licenses; we only need 2 full licenses, everyone else is a 'user', but the user license is *so* limited that the program is useless to them so we ended up having to limp along with less than we need, and also paying for things we don't need, due to the licensing setup. I understand they don't want to be ripped off either, but there must be a better way.

I run a language lab at NMSU and we were looking for document management software that could handle the mountains of paperwork that seem to hit us endlessly. This product not only fit our budget, but proved to be very popular with our secretarial staff. By the second day of use they were actually eager to put more documents into the system. Within a week, they had added over a thousand pages to the demo version of the software and were practically demanding that I buy the software.
The ability to burn stand alone archival CD's with full search capability was a plus that we had not even expected until we began running the software. This feature alone would make me recommend the software.
Tech support was also excellent. I was unfamiliar with Microsoft SQL Server and was guided through the installation painlessly. We are now running 5 users with the enterprise edition and no one has mentioned a single problem.
I will definately watch this company to see what future software they develop.
About the only drawback I can see is that I will be demonstrating this to other departments for the next several months.

Intuitive user interface which can be customized to your liking. All of the security options necessary for everyone from a one license user to instituitional user. Short learning curve and users can be up and operating in minutes. Technical support is incredible. Multiple means of accessing documents including graphical identification. Useable even with Ms Access with ability to download existing DB to CDs for use on any computer even without the software installed. It answers all of my needs and I cannot believe the value. Professional Records Imaging, LLC
