"Two bugs that I have found"

    September 4, 2011  |   By harry_gondalf

    Version: DBManager Standard Edition 3.2.4

    Pros

lots of features, easier to use than MySQLWorkbench,

    Cons

Free version is very old (2007) software, and doesn't always form SQL queries correctly. Also get nagware to update ... to the same version!

    Summary

    1. Export (DUMP) table inserts TYPE= keyword, instead of ENGINE=keyword. Need to edit this for all tables, then the .sql file can be imported into MySQL. Likewise, dumps coming from phpmyadmin need to be edited to say TYPE instead of ENGINE.

    2. Inserting a column from the Workspace/table window can cause (I suspect) a badly-formed SQL query; such that the table can not be viewed in phpmyadmin, but rather cause an out of memory fatal error. When inserting the same column from the Table Designer window, which inserts fewer columns, the ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN query works fine.

Still, this is much easier to use than MySQLWorkbench, and is much more stable.

I use it mainly for paging through the records to find one record to be updated. This is faster than entering a SELECT query manually through phpmyadmin.
