      "Easy--and just works."

      January 06, 2011   |   By grantsk

      Version: CrossLoop 1.30

      Pros

Easy to download & install--I walked a computer neophyte through doing this over the phone. Easy to launch & connect, too. Easy to show client how each launch generates different access key, and how access is denied w/o client's permission.

      Cons

Some latency, of course, but not unmanageable. Use Windows version to remote connect to a Windows computer (when I used Mac to Windows, it worked but I didn't see the Desktop background of remote Windows computer, and latency seemed greater).

      Summary

My go-to tool for supporting several friends & family without having to drive to their homes. I run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit as a virtual machine (under VMWare Fusion) on my MacBook Pro 15" (stock 4GB RAM) and the Windows version of CrossLoop on that to support my Windows users... no problem. Haven't tried the Mac CrossLoop to support my one Mac user (did use it once to connect to a Windows machine--worked but not ideal; see above), but I expect similar good results Mac-to-Mac.
Full disclosure: I have not yet tried TeamViewer (Mac); it's also highly rated by CNET and might prove superior. But for now CrossLoop does the job... and it's free! Many thanks to CrossLoop developers--you've saved me hours and gallons of gas!
